If Hughton has said he would come, what are we waiting for?....I know it is fine not to rush, but I can't see a better choice. (It still appears Watford have not been approached.)

Does this mean the board are still trying to get someone with a "bigger name"? I hope this is not the case! :emoticon-0112-wonde

I just hope guys like Hughton (or even Di Matteo) don't start to think that they must be the second choice and are not the preferred choice, so they change their mind about coming here. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

What worries me more is that the Birmingham job is now open for applicants, and we could well see one of these so called 'bookies favourites' slip right past and into another hotseat.

`When any job is advertised, it is only fair to everyone that every applicant has the opportunity to 'sell' himself to the employer. Even if they think they know they have the right man (Hugton or whoever) they still owe it to the other applicants to give them a fair hearing. Anyonw who's agent has put his name forward is by definition saying he will come but the board still has to go through the full process for the good of the business. (Club)

Sky Sports are now reporting you have approached us to speak to Malky. Our board have said they will not welcome any approaches, but let's just say most Watford fans don't trust our new Chairman right now!!

Although I would say, it's strange you've had all the applciants for the job but none of them have seemed suitable so far....

The ex-Newcastle boss said in a statement: "I can confirm that I was one of the candidates that the club spoke to about the vacant position.

"During these talks I was most impressed with the vision, ambition and determination of the owner Dato Chan Tien Ghee and the board.

"Unfortunately, those talks were unsuccessful on this occasion."

I would think that all candidates will know that Cardiff are interviewing others, there is no mention that he had been offered the job... that's just paper talk.

Yes Rhondda...Disrespectful is probably the wrong word. But i guess I am starting to think...If Hughton was keen to come, maybe now after two weeks he may says bugger you lot I will take another job. People can't wait around forever. Just worries me that the big pool of choices may dwindle to "this is who is left". I mean, who do they think they will get better?? If they throw all their eggs at Malky and Watford say no...then what..."Oh Chris, you still interested", and hope he is.

I would rather the board interviewed a guy and went...That is the man for the job and then hired him with confidence. I guess maybe they didn't think he was the man for the job.

Salisbury Kev, maybe MM's agent has indicated he is prepared to talk to the City board but they have to make the approach because he cannot contractually, and they have only just got to him on the applicants list.
If they had asked Watford for permission to speak to him on Day 1 and been refused what kind of message would that have sent other applicants approached afterwards?

Absolutely right Rhondda. The impression has been given that Sheareer was actually offered the job but terms could not be agreed.

I doubt that very much. Shearer was just another candidate who threw his hat into the ring and had to be heard.

Why? If I was a business owner and I was impressed with a guy, I would be signing him up. Not, "I will get back to you in 3 weeks if you are still available". I think they have decided that Hughton is not their first choice, and now they seem to have approached Watford it becomes more clear that is the case.

Agree Hughton would be my choice too but the board are not going to be hurried... Just hope now that things speed up.

"Following West Bromwich Albion's decision to sack manager Roberto Di Matteo, Hughton was seen as the favourite for the job. Instead though, with Hughton's insistence of bringing into his own staff being cited as a major stumbling block, it was former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson who was appointed to the position."

Would this be a stumbling block for us as well???

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the scenario. The Watford line kept the emphasis that there has been no 'official' approach, so maybe they were preparing themselves for this. We all know everyone has a price, so will be interesting what the board consider to be Malky's.... but we all know at Watford that if that price is met, they are gone!!

It will be sad to see Malky go, but if he does (and can;t really blame him if the board back him), we know he will do it in the right way - he just seems a genuine guy... and if he does, he will be welcome back at Watford and cheered!!

It seems to me that Dato Chan Tien Ghee thinks that he is honerbound to meet all that apply, it's his way and I can't fault him. I think that anyone who is interviewed will be told this too and if they want the Cardiff job will be willing to wait.

"The former Newcastle boss (Hughton) has delayed his decision on a possible move to Fulham as he waits to hear whether he has landed the Cardiff manager's job. Fulham want a decision made quickly.."

"Birmingham City have begun their search for a manager following Alex McLeish’s resignation, with Gianfranco Zola and Chris Hughton believed to be highly-regarded by the club’s board."

How long can he wait? I understand what you are saying Rhondda, but the man needs to make sure he has a job next year!

someone asked why wait because the manager might wait 3 weeks and when they come back to him say 'no, you kept me waiting' Lets be honest here gents, all these people, incouding Houghton are out of work as in "Unemployed". If you or I was unemployed and turned down a job offer because they made us wait we'd have our benefits stopped.
the longer these people are out of work the less sale-able they are so I don't think any of them are going to worry about waiting 3 weeks. They'll take a job just to stay in the market.
The poeple woh can pick and choose are those already employed like MM.

I think the point is Hughton does have options....and the longer he is left to hang by Cardiff the more chance is has to take another opportunity. That is what I am saying. All of a sudden our 4th choice becomes our 1st choice. If the board felt Hughton was the man for the job they should have signed him. Talking to Shearer is a joke and suggests that Hughton is not who they want. You may think Hughton should hang around, but if Birmingham offer him a contract tomorrow it is bye bye Chris.

I think the board are starting to look a little undecided and may make a mess of this....aka the last 10 years.

    a possible personal agenda/PR stunt?

"Hey Beeb, I've started looking around but unless I get more money, I'm breaking up with Gary"

    (I love being cynical :))
