"get to half time" of course you try to change it on the pitch... you try... you have to. my point is to be critical that I only saw him TRY after we'd conceded. As to the point that at least it was changed. LFc have no god given right to any points. we won a point we didn't drop any cos they were not ours to drop. Villa gave their all for one point and may feel robbed but they went into their shell as well. We were 0-2 down. i saw it said that we in other years would have folded. At least we changed it and got back into it and won that point. Thats poor return yes but since the shooting in the foot was done the salvage job had to be done and at least we did it. others could have left it as was until 55mins "to see" but where do you draw the line. Yeah it should have been right at the start but the point is at least we scrapped for something. Rodgers deserves a going over for it but its ott to suddenly go throw the whole thing for one result.... IMO the real test is our reaction, and we must go react positively v everton.
He did 2nd half of last season but yes I agree we havent had that much balance this time but it isnt all down to BR But you cant lay the blame at any managers door if a player is doing **** (unless he keeps picking him, Johnson for example but what the alternative given our injuries?) that player needs to have a word with himself Jonhson needs to be dropped the min Flanno is back Why the **** Kelly isnt fit enough to start a game now is pathetic
Let's not forget we've not had a fully fit back five all season. Chopped changed and then chopped again. As individuals our defence is fine, as a collective unit it needs a lot of work - I doubt this is BR's strength but we do need a bit more discipline in defence. With that said, this is the first LFC team that genuinely excites me when I watch them since 08/09. That's part of the disappointment, we expected to thrash Villa purely because of how superb we've been at home this season. BR changed it up, we drew level and rescued a point. Learn from it, move on. Just makes next week a must win, we need to start beating the big teams and this will be the true test of BR.
amen to that, have to take the rough with the smooth, he will make mistakes, but boy when it works we are good to watch. we are still in transition aren't we, and we can all see what he trying to do, just hope it clicks soon, ie next year is our year
Leaving aside the Villa game for a moment. The table does lie - well OK it doesn't but it doesn't tell the whole truth. Just look into the fixtures until the end of February of all of the teams from 1 - 8 and you'll find that we have a spread of more winnable matches than the rest of our opponents. Add to that the psychological advantage of playing all of our nearest competitors (1 - 5) at home and the future prospects look good for us. So I'm not as frightened by the tightness at the top - it could well work in our favour. And I nearly forgot, the CL and FA Cup now add yet another distraction for some of our opponents. Now going back to Villa. We and Rodgers learnt a lot. We do have players coming back who can help but we do need another DM
Rodgers is still a young manager who is learning on the job. I'd like to think he will learn from his mistakes but this is the 3rd time he has gone for an overly attacking side - Soton away last year, Oldham in the cup and Villa at home.
And the whole defensive set up of our team will be the cause of our downfall if we don't sort it out in January. New full backs and a DM please.
anyone not think we need a new defensive coach? not even sure who it is at the moment, but something is going wrong, cant just be the players surely.
I don't necessarily disagree with this....but I would settle for a little less 'excitement' if it meant a little more 'comfort'. We did have all CB's available at one point of the season....and we couldn't settle on a pairing but sure, it doesn't help!
I don't go along with "the table doesn't lie" stuff. Of course, if comparing the winners to whoever finished bottom then it doesn't as the champions are clearly a better side. However, if comparing for example, the two Manchester clubs a couple of seasons back when Aguero won with the last kick, of course it can be down to luck if things are that close and therefore is is entirely possible for the table to "lie" about who is the best side (not i that season though, it was purely an example and Man city were clearly the better side )
Yes. The problem lay with the tactics. When we changed system the game changed. That game was very winable
Just to offer an outsider's view, I think that your defence is being blamed for a lot of problems that aren't down to them. The lineup that started against Villa offered them no cover at all, with no holding midfield player and wide players that aren't strong defensively. Villa's only real strength is their attack and they were allowed free reign to go at your backline, often avoiding the midfield entirely by hitting it long. They got men up to support Benteke quickly and often got free runs at defenders, as they weren't being properly tracked. It seems a little strange to me that you don't have anyone to cover for Lucas, as his short stint in the game was when you were at your best. Gerrard could probably do with being used a little more sparingly too, as he doesn't have the legs to play 90 minutes every week in the middle of the park in a two man pairing.
"It seems a little strange to me that you don't have anyone to cover for Lucas," Not just you! We're bored of saying it over here, been the case for ages!
