According to Adam Blackmore, KL has met with the staff at the club this morning and informed them she has no plans to sell club, new CEO to be appointed soon and we are sticking to the path we are on !

So is this good news, I feel its great news personally. as even with new owners, no idea if it will be a good thing or not.

Just posted this in the other thread :)

I agree, sounds like great news. Starting to think that rather than a meltdown we might come out of this even stronger.

Will probably have to wait till the summer to see if the new CEO can convince KL to give the same level of backing in the transfer window as she has previously to see if it is really good news or not.

I agree, the more I think about it, manager staying, etc.. I think with the right CEO we can move forward and be even stronger. I suddenly have a really good feeling about it !!!

A couple of quality emergency signings would boost morale somewhat!

I agree - providing KL and the new CEO can demonstrate the same level of ambition as Cortese. For that was his greatest asset to the football club and that is fundamentally what we were all disappointed to be losing.

Pretty **** news in my opinion. The reason Cortese is no longer here is that he and Liebherr had different opinions as to how the club should progress. We're talking about a man who consistently got things right in those regards, and a woman who thought he was wrong.

Agreed. I wonder what the club's aims are now that both Cortese and Markus are out of the picture? If their plan/ambition for Europe is still in place then this can only be good news.

Agreed, lots of rumours he had lost some of his passion recently though, not the usual 7am appearances at the training ground etc.. May be a good thing, as Jack Cork spouted on sky this morning, The manager is the one players dont want to see go. If we get John Williams, hopefully he and MoPo can strike up a good working relationship. Best thing to happen is new CEO comes in, and MoPo signs a contract extension !! Happy days, Oh and Suarez signs aswell but I will take 2 out of 3 for now !

Well we still don't really know why Cortese is no longer here. Perhaps he just walked because he wasn't prepared to relinquish the total control of the club that he's exercised for the last few years.

Well she says we're sticking to the path we're on so that seems pretty speculative. I think the real reason he's no longer here is because Liebherr wanted him to be less autocratic and he wasn't up for it.

Why would she want to diminish his power at the club unless she thought he wasn't doing a good job?

    I agree withy JOE .

Time will tell , but why did NC walk ?

I still hope / think he will be back , but if not , will have to trust KL .

Depends if the difference of opinion on the future related to her wanting a more democratised boardroom, I guess.

    Happy with this, though.

Well you may be right, they may well have had a serious disagreement over the club's ambition but we can't know that for sure. It's possible she just wanted a more democratic setup at the top.

If we take the club statement at face value then she was happy for him to stay but Cortese isn't perfect and, while he was doing a good job overall, there may be some aspects of his job that she feels could be done better by other people. It's clear he rubs some people up the wrong way and there have been a few incidents that haven't reflected well on the club. A couple of examples would be this recent thing with Lallana and Clattenburg and the decision to ban press photographers a few years ago. The feuds with Benali and Le Tissier aren't solely Cortese's fault but he's partly responsible and that doesn't exactly help the club's image either.

95% of posters on this board, myself included, have been part of a consensus that Nicola Cortese is the man most responsible for our incredible success over the past few seasons. Success which has continued under three different managers. Cortese was the common denominator for all of that. When you then all suddenly convince yourselves that actually we can continue as normal without him it seems like you're burying your heads in the sand. Was he making a positive difference or not?

To respond to this, I don't think its as clear cut as you say. KL wants to maximise her investment and NC was doing a great job in that regard in terms of increasing the value of Southampton FC. However, as the owner, it's entirely her perogative to change the personnel if she doesn't think things are being gone about in a way she's happy with. The fact that she says she wanted NC to stay is probably true, but I imagine there were certain conditions (perhaps more regular reporting, the need to justify expenses etc) which NC wasn't happy to negotiate on.

Don't see how this can be viewed as anything other than good enws. KL has money and has given the club fantastic backing recently so let's take her at her work!

Maybe she just wants to excercise some level of control of the asset she owns and is responsible for?

Lets face it, if it had all gone tits up, then KL would be the one holding the parcel when the music stopped.

Like most I'm a little nervous about Cortese's departure, obviously he did a good job, but did he do the best possible job he could have done,or a better job than anyone else could have given the resources? We will never know and whilst he certainly did well that doesnt mean that another CEO/chairman couldnt do a good job as well. So I will err on the side of optimism at the moment

I'm not "convincing myself that we can continue as normal" as I recognise changing him is a risk and but it's not necessarily destined to fail.

Anyway he is gone now so lets hope we get a capable replacement, the king is dead, long live the king.
