Oh dear With this news we have more days of speculation about whether Malky will go there. I guess he is going to be continually linked to new positions isn't he? That's what happens when you have a good manager in charge. I'm personally convinced that he is committed to the club from what he said after the end of the season and that was backed up by GT.
I'm more worried about Birmingham than Cardiff to be honest... Shearer does make me laugh though. What has he proved so far to be so demanding? (I'm guessing the talks broke down from his side). He doesn't seem like one of the brightest ex-players out there, his tenure of Newcastle wasn't anything special...
To be fair Toby, Newcastle were already a shambles before he went there and he did only have 8 games to turn it around. Although I agree with most people who think he isn't cut out as a manager
I'm not too worried about Birmingham. The reports are they have 6 on their radar and none of them are Malky. They look to be mainly going after someone already out of work. The list reported is Gianfranco Zola, Roberto di Matteo, Chris Hughton, Alan Curbishley, Dave Jones and Steve Cotterill
I agree chris that he didn't have much time and Newcastle weren't doing particularly well went he went there, but that sort of proves my point. He hasn't done anything yet to be picky and demand high wages, yet he still thinks he's something special. I reckon he'll fail the next job he gets then give up, he's too full of himself
Ok Kev I hadn't seen their target list, I only knew that McLeish had definitely gone last night. If MM doesn't go to Cardiff we should be safe for a while then, can't see too many managers getting the sack now...
Well, the hope is Cardiff employ a manager that isn't Malky, and already out of a job, as does Birtmingham. That should leave all roles take up except for Villa - and pretty certain Malky is completely off their radar - although if they are after someone who has got relegated twice and manager their closest rivals, then who knows! There are some pretty good managers out there who are jobless, so that is one hope! Also the board have said they won't welcome any approach, so as long as they stick to their word and Malky doesn;t push for it, I think we are safe (touch wood)
I would have thought Di Matteo and Hughton would be getting jobs quite easily, I never really understand all this hiring-and-firing of managers. Why would Villa go for Martinez or McLeish? Why did Avram Grant get so many jobs?
There always seems to be the same names popping up for certain jobs. Dowie's name always kept popping up all the time, and never sure why - he lived off that one good season at Palace. Even Holloway has been linked with Cardiff after apparently not wanting to have to rebuild his Blackpool squad on a shoe-string again! Tehre are good names out there that are looking.... Hands of already employed ones!!
Ian Dowie is a joke, he only has a reputation because of Andy Johnson's constant diving/penalties. As you say there are loads of other good managers unemployed, leave Malky alone (Ironically if MM does leave then we're probably going to steal another club's manager )
I'm not so sure we will. I expect Bas will go for a 'cheap' option, so try and promote from within (although SD has said he is not ready) or we will go for an unemployed manager.... where is Dowie these days ;-)
There are few things that would make me consider "suspending" my support of Watford but Dowie might just test that ........ or ...
Oh, a dream team of Dowie and Wise... now you're talking!! Think we could get Bassett is as Director of Football or something... or Technical Advisor
You'd want Sven or Avram Grant in as Director of Football, with an honorary role for Vialli as club representative. We could invest the money planned for redevelopping the ground
Sven has a job so will have to be Avram... or Avram can be a media spokes-person with his charm! Billy Davies can come in as Avram's assistant as well - he can be there for post-match interviews after we have lost a game to explain why...
Perhaps we should return to the old days of saving money by employing a player manager...JE perhaps or, in my dreams, a first appointment for a promising youngster like Paul Scholes!
If Mackay goes to Cardiff after they've made it apparent that they would have preferred Shearer, I would lose respect for him.
