you beat me to it (I had the link copied on my clipboard and everything). It's a shame he wants to go after finally proving his doubters wrong but if he wants to go then so be it. He is 30 now and I know we are looking for younger options anyway.

I'd imagine it will be nice for him to give something back to his boyhood club before retiring <ok>

Wonder how much we'll get for him? Perhaps a swap for a promising Argentine youngster? ;)

if a wingless formation is good enough for the England 1966 world cup side then its good enough for us!!!

I think we need to separate a purple patch fro mthe full 2 years in the club.

    1. there was no pressure to perform at the end of last season.

    2. kuyt and suarez got on very well it seemed to me and maxi did well just getting in there on the end of thier work.

    3. other have said it, age, pace and consistnecy are all issues for me.

all in all I'm not too upset on it.

Maxi has a very good football brain and will be missed (to a certain extent).

However, age is not on his side and we really do need better quality than Maxi to advance. Overall, i'll have mixed views if he goes but i'll always respect the fact he tried his best for our great club.

Cheers Maxi - and good luck to you if you move on <ok>

Is he jumping before he's pushed? I hope so. He deserves an honourable discharge for services rendered.

We'll save on his wages so that's a bonus.

I suppose, but I'd much rather Jovanovic and Cole went before Maxi. Atleast Maxi brings something to the team when he plays!

Yeah Cole and Jovanovic are on alot more that Maxi I heard. Who will take Cole though? he needs to take a massive paycut

Good point there Bozz, maybe Capello should try it

Off topic but what happened with Meireles? Went from banging them in to not, at all!

Would have liked him to stay for another season or two- at thirty that's about all we'd expect from him anyway I suppose. Maxi, Suarez and Kuyt all getting in the box together was the main reason we were getting all those goals IMO. Still, as you say, if he wants to leave then we have to let him go.
All depends on how we replace him of course, but maybe it'll be easier to find a system that suits Carroll better?

I think 4-3-3 is the way to go but there is room for a winger.... suarez carroll kuyt up top for me needs an option. Kuyt oculd play rcm with his work rate. I'd love to see some real pace and guile added in the mould of suarez.

maxi with all due respect has not got the pace.

As would we all. The Mirror's article today on wages and those being shipped out has a graphic in which Maxi is the main featured player, yet he's mentioned once in the article.

What really bugs me is every article alludes to it all being Rafa's fault, like Purslow would let Rafa do all the wage negotiations while his sacking was being planned. Jova threatened not to come because we were in such a state with the ownership so it seems likely he was offered a bigger wage to avoid us being embarrassed at not even being rejected by a lowly player on a free. Cole was signed after Rafa's sacking, a marquee name to ease concerns at the lack of any buyer in sight last summer. Poulsen was Hodgson's player and already too expensive a fee, never mind wages.

We'll have to pay them to go but considering FSG got the club for the cost of the debt I think they could afford a few mill to get everything back to manageable levels.

We need experience as well as good youngsters so he will be missed.

2 years left on his deal. He scored more than Downing and young last year. At least £10m <ok>:emoticon-0112-wonde

at 30, whats his monetry value anyway? its not that big of a deal and if we can improve relations with an argentinian team it could lead to us getting a decent youngster cheaper in future - although Argentinians tend to hate life in England :/
