A very good post that. Barton and Henry are different types of player. Barton has never been and never will be a defensive central midfield player.

As for the OP......................IMO if Barton had played, the same problems would have been there, as he would have played in the centre ahead of either Carroll or O'Neill. We still would have had a ridiculously unbalanced midfield imo.

Col, youre confusing positions with roles, when Hill plays at LB, hes in the same position at BAE but they play totally different games.
Same can be said for Austin and AJ up front or Oneil and Philips on the wing.

Ill accept Henry has a different role in CM but he still plays the same position.

    Complete rubbish flyer.
A CM can be attacking, it can be defensive. You're trying to make your argument with this nonsense. You have constantly said that Barton and Henry play in the same position to counter the fact that we need Henry as a holding midfielder. Fact is, with Faurlin injured, he's the only one we have!

Im still waiting for you to tell me what position both players play in a 442.

    -------xxxxxxxxx----xxxxxxxxx

    xxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx

You say they play in different positions prove it.

    Heres a 4231, try again

    ------------xxxxxxxx

    xxxxxxxxx---xxxxxxxx---xxxxxxxx

    -----xxxxxxxxx----xxxxxxxx

    xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx

The only time they ever play a different position is a 4141 or a 433 but the fact is we hardly ever play that.

    xxxxxxx---xxxxxxx--Barton--xxxxx

    -----------Henry

One's an attacking, box to box type central midfield player, the other is a defensive central midfield player.
You keep saying that we don't need Henry because we have Barton.......they're two different types of player.

Barton doesnt really get into the opposing penalty area but youve said they play different positions. They dont, they play the exact same position but do it differently.

Fine, youve been avoiding the question all thread despite being asked multiple times.

The online equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears, ironic considering your comment.

Flyer you ain't got a clue mate. Barton and Henry are totally different players. One sits and the other's natural position is "in the hole" behind the front two, or at least the attacking member of the center midfield duo.

Joey Barton has never been, isn't and never will be a holding player.
