Actually Jonah, thats exactly what Warky was saying!! The way i see it is that the only possible way that ME could leave, without it destroying us, is if he sold the club and lets be honest, who on earth would invest in ITFC??? So if people want ME out then so be it but it will mean the end of our club. PTC Still coming out with the same old ****e hey, remember that you kept saying the same about PJ and saying he needs time and that everyone needs to get things in to perspective etc etc etc and look what happened there. It would be different if we were playing well and just not getting the breaks but come on, how many chances were created yesterday and against Preston. We are absolute gash in midfield but MM just cant see it, for some reason he thinks bringing on the likes of Tabb and Nouble will change the game, to be fair it does but in favour of our opponents. He is after more defenders when it is soooooo blatantly clear its not defenders we need!! Blah de blah de blah, you keep walking around with your head up your ass like you did under Jewell, eventually the smell will get to bad and you will come out and see the light!!
Oh and PTC, its a bit more than two games since before christmas, which was when things were looking ok!! Yes i was starting to think maybe i could be wrong about Mick but it didnt take long to come to my senses and realise that it was only a flash in the pan (oh Warky and WCP that kinda proves i was on here when we were winning, so stick that up your lying asses)
Jonah - Yes Cresswell and Hewitts talents may not have been flying entirely under the radar, my point was he noticed, went through the process and signed them up. I agree Keane over spent, but I think despite all his faults not having Leadbitter contributed to the disastrous start of the season that lead to Jewell's sacking, Edwards while never really setting the world alight has always done alright and MM still seems happy to use him all down the right hand side (him going back to RB is another, pointless, debate). Same with Martin, I think if he had wanted to agree to a reduced salary then MM would have been happy to keep him on. The point I'm making is not that I wouldn't trust MM in the transfer market or that Jewells signings were always brilliant. All i'm saying is that Mick spending millions on a transfer doesn't guarantee a world beating player
Good points Mike, the thing is, where does it stop? Yes ME is minted and thats half the problem, some on here think that he should be throwing money at promotion but it would take more than 20 million for us to get a squad good enough for that and even then there are no guarantees. I wouldnt say that MMś signings have been that good, actually quite the opposite, what i have seen of Skuse i would say he is an average champ player and Didsy a good champ player as for the others..... I think Chambers/Smith is a better def partnership than Berra/Smith but i think MM is trying to accomodate Berra. Personally i would rather us call Hewitt back and play a back 5 of Hewitt Chambers Berra Smith Cresswell, obviously when attacking Cressy and Hewitt bomb on, which is their strengths. If an attack then breaks down we still have 3 at the back!!!
So you admit that it will take a serious amount of cash to get promotion! just what the feck do you expect Mick to achieve when he isn't allowed to spend anything? You really are a grade one plank! Your hero Roy Keane spunked most of the money away on a load of garbage and unfortunately we are still suffering the consequences. I did say I wouldn't respond to any more of your drivel but this post just pure comedy gold!
I think spending 10million would be way over what we need to spend, let alone 20. This squad of limited players has been guided to the top half by Mick, we're far far from being world beaters and if we lose MM I would be very worried; I don't think any other manager could get us anywhere near the top half with this squad. Only a couple more players, even may just be another player like Hunt or SEB could see us have enough to get into the play-offs. And that's the line the club is very carefully treading. They seem aware that Mick is the perfect manager to guide the squad successfully through this period of reigning in of investment. They may well be shooting for an impossible goal if we want to become profitable/self-sufficient while in the championship but in my opinion leaning on/investing in the academy to provide the players for the future instead of spending on transfers is the right way to go about it.
Not a great idea to bring up the support of former managers really is it, when the only manager you have rated in the ME era has been Keane, who was the worst of the lot!!! Spanish I actually agree with alot of the points you're making in terms of style of play etc, negativity, recruitment of players etc, but in terms of points and stabilising the club he has performed miracles and even though I think he could achieve more if he wasn't as negative or adverse to taking risks there's no doubting he's a good manager. As far as I were to see it if Mick were to leave us we'd be in the ****, which pretty much is similar to what you are saying to JWM with regards to ME. I think we just need to be realistic to where we are this season and as ever us as fans seem to get swayed by a couple of decent or poor results over the Xmas period we were all waxing lyrical about Mick and how even automatic promotion wasn't out of our reach, now we're suddenly in crisis and Micks **** the team is **** etc. And we need to accept what the club are doing in terms of trying to stabilise ourselves financially putting more emphasis into the academy.
But saying that, yes there are many things about Micks management which frustrate me, trying to stop the opposition play rather than going out there and playing to our own strengths, playing 4 uncreative midfielders, playing a CB at RB etc. It does puzzle me that we are playing a CB at RB who is doing no better than when Hewitt was there, so surely given the fact we are no longer in the situation where we don't want to play youngsters because we're in a relegation scrap and yet he chooses not to play a talented youngster like Hewitt. Yet he seems willing to play and even more inexperienced and probably less talented player like Mings. Hopefully once he comes back from his loan spell, he'll be involved abit more. And it would be nice if we could sign a RW and a creative midfielder, rather than have to put up with alot of average steady players in midfield.
Agree with you in terms of thinking outside the box. As for Tabb it's strange as the first few games of the season I thought he looked like our best player and was being wasted out on left, especially as we had the ineffective Hyam and Skuse in the middle. The Mick dropped him which I thought was odd but it seemed to work as our form improved but since then he's been poor in nearly every match. Maybe a run of games might improve his form?
I agree, similarly as the argument goes would've Royle spent money wisely if he had millions, we just don't know, our club on the whole doesn't seem to do well when we have alot of money, we do best on a budget. I think we can all see Mick would do better with a bit more money but we're doing okay atm without breaking the bank and I think it would be abit disheartening if we suddenly broke what we were trying to do in favour of short term gain. We want the club to stabilise this season, put some youngsters in then after a while I'm sure a bit more money will be there to invest. Mick spent alot of money in his last season at Wolves and didn't really improve the quality of their team, so perhaps he does his best work on a tight budget.
Look, apart from Spanish nobody on here is saying MM out so some are over reacting to that. As fans we do reserve the right to have a bit of a moan if we can see things that are wrong. (an opinion of course) It is abundantly clear though to those that watch Town week in week out that we are not playing that well at the moment in any area of our team, during our run to 6th place we were getting wins on the back of some very average performances & good work in defence. MM is very rigid in his formation, tactics and use of options through a game, I am not saying this is right or wrong I am saying though that I at times wish he would try something different. My only real criticism of MM is he can be to loyal to some players and not others, for me we have a couple of players in our first team squad that should not be there and the two youngsters out on loan, again IMO would be better served warming our bench rather than someone else's (admittedly Elliot did get a start yesterday, the first since the resumption of his loan spell, Marriot is not getting a look in though) If it was down to me & with Luke Hyam probably out for a game or two I would try something different; 5-3-1-1 Gerks - GK Berra - CB Smith - CB Chambo - CB Hewitt - RWB Cressy - LWB Skuse - Mid Tunni - Mid Hunt - Mid Didsy - No 10 Murphy - F (SEB when fit)
It's ok if you only feel the need to post on here when we lose, some people come here to vent, some come to enjoy a victory, some come to bait the budgies, some come just to have a laugh and some even come to talk about football and Ipswich, it is what this forum is for in my opinion. The fact that your attendance is more frequent when we lose is not a problem, I'm not a liar and I will not be sticking anything up my bottom thank you.......I can't speak for Mr tache
Warky, what i am saying is that going on Micks team selection and tactics it would take £20 million or more to get us up, not necessarily under a manager that isnt so stuck in his ways and tactically naive!! So actually not a stupid comment. Ptc Agree with nearly everything you say!! You like me thought that Mick had his limitations and it is kinda showing now, he was always going to keep us up, which is great if thats what your happy with but can he take us to the next level, i think not and i guess your not too sure either ptc
What pissed me off even more yesterday was my accy bet, i done the following to win, Norwich Gillingham Col U Fleetwood Rochdale Rotherham Salisbury and................... Ipswich, they prevented me from winning just over a grand!!!
Is the same tactically naive manager who got 2 teams promoted as champions, kept one of them in the top flight for three years running and guided Ireland to a World Cup Quarter Final? The same World Cup that your hero Roy had a hissy fit at and fecked off in a major strop?
