It's all newspaper talk and I struggle to believe it, but it's exciting to speculate. That said, like others on the forum, I prefer the solidity of stable foundations, building up slowly and utilising our superstar factory to its fullest extent to bring through new players for both Southampton and the national teams. Off-hand though, supposing Katherine did sell (and I am not saying that she will, nor that I am ungrateful for all that the Liebherr's have done for us), would they make a profit? The Express quotes Saints value at £100m. Saints were picked up for £15m. Does that include paying off the debt from the stadium? Then there's the new training facility, the transfers and the wage bill. Match that against the income that has been generated from tickets sales, TV rights, cup runs, etc.
Messi would never play for Saints. As anyone who has sat in the Northam knows, Adam Lallana, playing down both the left and the right, would show him up.
Bearing in mind how shocked we were about Nicola leaving, I almost feel ambivalent about him possibly returning. What I personally would prefer is that KL keeps ownership and appoints an executive chairman with the business nous of NC but without the personal baggage. It would be great to see MLT acknowledged fairly as part of our history. On the playing side, I am sure we could get Champions League places by spending big (and loading on the debt), but I like the way we are doing things now and the Southampton Way is the plan.
I keep seeing it reported that she would make a huge amount i.e. the difference between 14 mill and 100+ mill....no mention of money put in. The club hasn't started to make money until recently....though this is not unusual for a new company (which effectively we were). However, I wouldn't worry too much for little Katharina...I'm sure the figures will work out...just not in the scale the media seem to think. IF we are sold...have to keep remembering that...perhaps she will keep Saints if an income starts to roll in.
It's not like she's been injecting a ton of money each season. We didn't spend much in League One or the Championship, and then we got a ton of money for simply being in the PL.
Who is saying she is evil? As for saying what's wrong with our owner? Well yes KL has been a good owner until now but that still doesn't rule out her wanting to sell does it?
I'll say something I've always said about this (in the pub, so gauge its reliability on that basis): We have no idea what Nicola's motives or plans are We have no idea what Katharina's motives or plans are We have no idea what Mauricio's motives or plans are Plus, more importantly, whenever we hear a rumour, whether in a paper or from someone on here, we should remember that these three are all people excellent at keeping their mouths shut, so what are the chances that the person writing whatever you're reading knows anything? Vin
Fair point, except I think we can have a fair stab at guessing Mauricio's motives, because he's a football man. He clearly has ideas about how to play the game and wants the opportunity to put those into practice, with a group of players capable of understanding and delivering what's required. I'm guessing he also wants to win things. At the moment, it would seem Saints offer him this opportunity, but I'm also sure he knows that he's in a very insecure profession.
Here's the view of our beloved Bearsy... i spose if cortese could not satisfy KL then it makes sense to get a bigger Wang. Is it true that our Wang would be the biggest in the league? Imagine the damage we could do with a massive Wang! i have boner just thinking bout it.
I think it's more to do with offloading something she has little interest in. If she makes a reasonable profit then all well and good. Money back, plus a bonus, and a responsibility offloaded. Everyone's happy, provided the club goes to the right person.
