FFS Butthead, what's wound you up so much this evening? We weren't that bad. We won the game and we're second.

Don't be all depressed like Flyer. It don't suit you mate.

Why don´t you just respect different opinions on a game - if you think we were bloody brilliant then fair enough but I thought we were very poor in the 1st half but improved in the 2nd. I would still call this a lucky win - and yes, I am happy we won but not about the way we did.

In the first half they ripped us apart at will. We won because of their ineptitude in front of goal as much as because of Charlie's efforts, but I guess that is what this level is all about.

I'm trying to join the "the performance doesn't matter, just count the points" club, but it ain't easy.

The sort of people that come out with comments that we are better without Joey are the sort which never go to the games.
They just look at results and come up with crap.
Starting with O'Neil ahead of Phillips was stupid on Harry's part.

I already conceded earlier in the thread that I didn't go to games and was interested in the opinions of those that did. Sorry I asked :-/

to be fair, he didnt see the game so it was a legit question. its not like he thinks two players in the same position play in different positions after watching a the game!

I think the single biggest problem we have this season is our manager consistently playing several of our midfielders out of position.
A 4-4-2 will only work with the correct balance in the midfield 4. By this I mean two wingers who have enough pace to work the flanks and get in behind their fullbacks and stretch their defence. They must also have basic tackling ability to cover our overlapping fullbacks when they get forward. IMO, Hoilett, SWP, Philips and Traore can play as wingers. However this season Harry has played Krancjar, Benayoun and O'Neill out wide in either a 4-4/2 or 4-2-3-1. IMO, this simply won't work and leaves us seriously lacking in creativity and pace out wide.
In a 4-4-2 the central pairing are crucial and again the balance must be right. One of the pair should have designated defensive responsibilities. That's not saying that he doesn't venture forward but both central players can't get caught forward together otherwise we will leave our CBs exposed and we will be cut to shreds. This player must be able to tackle and his positional play should force counter attacks out wide as much as possible. They must also be able to take the ball from the back 4 and set the tempo as required. IMO, Henry, Diakite, Faurlin can play this position correctly. I do not see Carroll or Barton as DCMs. You may and your entitled to your opinion but I don't.
The other central position is all about creativity and making runs to get up with and beyond our front two, releasing our wingers with good passing and CB splitting passes to release our forwards. IMO, Benayoun and Kranjcar are best suited to this role. Diakite, Barton and Carroll at a push may also be able to play here but personally I don't think so. Of course if a footballer is any good he should be able to play in several positions but I feel that Harry has being putting square pegs in round holes to accommodate certain players. I don't rate Barton. I understand others do but I feel he gives the ball away too cheaply trying the spectacular pass and is not efficient enough on the ball. I acknowledge his work rate but again I don't rate players just because they show some effort. With the crazy money these gents are on I expect effort as a minimum. Bottom line Flyer is that I like a proper 4-4-2. You may not and that's fine but I do. Our setup yesterday was initially wrong and again square pegs. I don't see a place for Barton in my team. I do see a place for Henry. Not because he's a great player but because IMO he can play the DCM better than anybody else that we have at the moment. The only place id play Barton is right full back.

I do acknowledge that there is a place for Carroll and Barton in a 4-2-3-1 but IMO not in a 4-4-2. Just my opinions, not forcing them on anybody else.
