How I´ve been longing for this anecdote Reporting at long last a win, The thought of the out´ers having a good gloat Would have been hard to take on the chin Also I´m glad that it gives breathing space To Hughton, who needed a boost, And I can only hope we move on apace So more points will come home to roost ´Twill put a few smiles back where scowls have been And hopefully unite agaÃn, The fans to get behind the boss and the team Instead of that divisive pain The timing could not have been better, I´d say When R. Bennett rippled the net, Splendidly set up by our umpteenth set play With a ball he spectacularly met So once again we won a game we had to I hope this time we can go on, And build on this, and generate in the crew Belief that will help us stay strong. OTBC
How long will Hughton last now? A stay of execution? The Newcastle result will be a pointer, but my feeling is that McNally doesn't want to shell out compensation so finishing 17th will be ok by him. Not ok for the fans though, but that probably won't matter to him when he is looking at another £60m for tv rights.
I'll think about such things in the morning (it's after midnight here). Right now I just want to enjoy the win.
A decent, and deserved win but it has to be followed up on Tuesday night with a bare minimum of 1 point against the skunks. Then hopefully another point in Wales before Man City come to town to tear us a new one
All that matters this season is staying up, then building a better squad for next season and so on and today's win was a massive step in the right direction.
You deserved to win that!. Was our worst performance of the season, probably the worst game of football ive ever watched, all we did was ooof the ball upfield and hope for something come from it, first 5-10 min's we were good but other than that abysmal. We have some big players coming back so hopefully we can put that loss behind us. Good Result for you today
Cheers! Seemed like you came for a 0-0 or to knick it on the break, and you had us very worried in the first 5 mins or so. I think you'll be fine over the season, there's definitely worse teams than both of us in this league. Your new signings should really help you too, even if Jelavic did do most of his best work defensively.
On a side note not everybody seems to share our happiness in victory if you listen to Canary Call. A surprisingly high number of the 'fans' on the phone-in are unhappy with a 1-0 win, disgusting if they wanted us to lose. Why is there so much hatred for Hughton??? Canary Call is seriously gutter radio.
Oh, I assure you it gets much worse. If you can find it online try Norwich vs Newcastle last season or our home game with Fulham or both of last season's games against Stoke. You must have been playing and seeing some decent football if you thought that game was so poor.
Same with the Pink Un messageboard. I know I've been a strong Hughton-Outer on here, but these guys embarrass me. Can't they just enjoy the win? And what was a decent enough performance? Certainly the kind of performance which, if repeated every match for the rest of the season, would keep us up? Let's argue tomorrow. Today let's just celebrate.
I'm absolutely made up we won today, but for me it changes nothing I'd still sack him tomorrow, thank god Hull were shocking today. Didn't rate Jonas one bit, we've got better within the squad already, Redmond would have caused no end of problems with his pace. If he's going to bring players in they've got to be better that what we've already got. But a wins a win so bring on Newcastle.
Thank god you don't have the power to do so lol. It's so tight at the bottom, this was a much needed win. Going to enjoy this weekend with that victory, as it doesn't happen often lol.
Excellent 3 points and plenty of effort, even if it lacked quality. Good to see us take control. I thought Hull defended well, but i think we deserved the win We need to take our chances, should of had a couple more. Watching Villa and Liverpool, great game. Villa are playing like we used to under PL. I am really enjoying it.
All we did was ooof it upfield, we had no midfield just put all our trust in our defence, the injury to Chester and change of formation rocked us
I've just noticed that after 22 games last season we were in 12th place and level on points with the team in 11th, which is exactly where we will be again if WBA and Swansea can avoid winning this weekend. Nicely paced Mr Hughton. I really don't know what all that fuss was about...
