Who is Alan Shearer? I know there's an Alan Shearer that sits on a sofa with Gary Lineker on a Saturday night and looks as smug as a smuggy thingy.

Oh that Alan Shearer, is that a "Fantasy" manager?

Quite shocked at the way the odds went actually, can't just be speculation with Skybet at 1/8! Expect this to be announced pretty quickly.

"Bellamy and Shearer clashed in their Newcastle days and a second loan spell for the Manchester City striker is now unlikely, but an offer will be made to the controversial star" - The Reflection Red Top.

Love how they get this stuff first :)

I might take a little longer to come around but your right, if it is AS, then he's the boss and we should get behind him. I can't recall ever seeing him speak away from comfy sofas so I may be pleasantly surprised.

If this is what we have been waiting for I have to admit I'm more than a little disappointed. I just do not see what he brings to the table that the other candidates could not offer, apart from perhaps his name.

On the positive side he should have plenty of contacts and can anyone see him taking on a job where he will not be given financial backing to succeed?

You'd think that would be the case Statto because of his name but I guess it depends how desperately he wants to get back into management...we'll all possibly find out soon enough.

<--- This is how I feel at the moment so I'm gonna leave it for tonight as see what tomorrow brings <ok>

the story is on the telegraph now so it gains more credibility:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...er-England-captain-holds-talks-with-club.html

key points:
"although no agreement has been reached so far it is understood that he has been offered the job and it is expected a formal announcement will be made on Wednesday"

"Shearer would be able to command a £1  million salary should he give up the television studios for the Cardiff dug-out. "

£1m for an unproven manager. please lord no.

Why? Why have they done this? Who's decided to go down this route? I want to see a hand go up and say "this is my idea!" so that if I'm wrong I can get a knife and fork and eat some humble pie and if I'm right I can get a knife and fork and chop them up into little bits and feed them to the twat eaters.

from the bbc website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13770272.stm

"I don't think the Cardiff fans mind him being English," said BBC Wales reporter James Pontin.

what? dave jones being english was never an issue for me, most of the squad arent welsh, so what??

"What they wanted was perhaps a big name and they'll be happy that the likes of someone of his stature is being linked to club. They crave success and promotion to the Premier League. However, Shearer's record isn't great. He managed eight games and has a win ratio of 12%."

personally, i dont want a big name, i want someone who can deliver promotion. roy keane is arguably a bigger name than shearer and as we have seen before, being a top class player doesnt make you a good manager.

I am absolutely ****ing outraged.

Malkay "I couldn't manage to tie my own ****ing shoe laces" Mackay would have been a better appointment.

Even on MOTD, it's abundantly clear that the man knows NOTHING about football.

SHEARER OUT!!!!

come on guys, you are not paying attention. look at Sky sport and BBC sport.
the man himself says that he had talks but they were UNsuccessful. Bit like him as a manager realloy then.
He aint coming.
What made me feel even better was his remarks regarding the boards ambitions and vision. Not a comment from a club cutting its budget I'd say!

Shearer hasn't got the credentials, so why bother even looking at him, someone posted last week saying the manager had been decided and we were waiting for paper work to be finalised, clearly not the case.

The board are no where near appointing a manger, this will go on till next week. Frustrating!!!!!! People say we need to take our time and find the right manager, fair enough, its going on too long and I think they really don't have that many options and are struggling.

Really hope I'm wrong but thats how it's looking. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

I had this same opinion purely based on the lack of information rather than any facts (not sure if I posted it though, I haven't checked). Though the Shearer story broke yesterday, I haven't seen any indication as to when these talks took place (unless my despair when reading it blocked that info out) so it may well still be the case. Just a hunch...right or wrong, none of us will no until the board make an official announcement.

All aboard the merry-go-round once again :)
