Skimlinks. I wonder if it'll do anything with that.

 

I used google chrome until recently but got sick of all the Groupon spam on it and the adblock on chrome seems a bit deficient. Somebody was complaining about cash converters being Hulls new sponsor on my football page and it flagged up about 20 different adverts on his post which seems a bit over the top!

When using my own computers, I use Firefox with Adblock Plus and for this reason I do not even know what advertising people have been seeing. Since using this combination, I have never had a single advert in any forum I have visited.

Whats wrong with chrome people? I haven't used the most recent firefox update, so I can't comment on that, but Internet Explorer has always been useless!

I've never seen a link to any advert in all my time of using Firefox with the add-on 'Adblock Plus'. It would seem this is indeed an "ad-repellant" but then again, I don't really know because I've never seen any!

 

To be honest I've never been troubled by advertisements. I just accept them as part of the deal - free internet content in return for being advertised at (which is why I despise News International, and Sky, as much as tabloid journalists - because you have to subscribe and be advertised at). This Skimlinks thing is extremely offensive though because it's adding links to my posts that I don't want there. It's insidious and it contravenes the inherent trust between forum owners and forum users - that the users' posts will not be edited or otherwise amended without their knowledge (except where it breaks forum rules). So, it doesn't matter if you're using adblock plus, cosi, because your comments are still being edited by Skimlinks whether you like it or not.

 

It'd be better if all off-topic threads were locked as soon as possible and the OP directed to The Pits if they're group members. If they're not then they shouldn't be posting off-topic threads anyway.

Has anyone got anywhere with increasing the character limits in OPs and replies in the groups?

Good idea. It'd be great if you could close all the other off-topic stuff too. Not the off-topic stuff in The Pits, just the the off-topic stuff on the F1 Board. The off-topic stuff in The Pits is fine.
