Due to pre season being 3 weeks away, do you expect all our new recruits to be signed by then, so we can hit the ground running? With the exception of the players still out injured. Will we keep Olofinjana? Ghilas seems likely to stay unless we can farm him out on loan again. Any new names to throw in the ring? Be disappointed if we don't land Danns, who'll be back up if we don't get him?
I doubt it. Clubs will probably wait as long as possible before signing Bullard, Olofinjana, or Kilbane due to their wages being so high for the level they'll be signing at (plus McShane and Ghilas but I've not seen any interest in them). Until we've got deals in place for those players a lot of our budget is tied up and we can't bring people in until it's freed.
I don't think wages will be a problem for any of the players, save JB if his "money isn't important" spiel turns out to be garbage. Not all footballers are arseholes and the likes of Kilbane and McShane will move on if they can't get game time, probably to somewhere on less wages but with a better squad role. As for names being thrown around, there aren't that many. Danns I suspect will head to Scotland (wrong move) and sign for Celtic/Rangers, Guzan won't come without a small fee (come on Assem, a SMALL fee and we do kind of need a goalkeeper). I expect some inevitable interest in some Leicester players, given their squad atm, probably someone like Chris Weale (ugh) or Bruno Berner. Saviour Kamara would be good fun if we can show the FA how much we want him and that he will be vital, but trial first. Speaking of trials, the club will be using the "two trialists a week" option it did last close season. So expect to see plenty of new faces around the training ground, plenty of "I've just seen a black jeep pulling out of Tesco's, you'll never guess who's driving it", a healthy dose of nonsense and some very strange links to the club. God I love the transfer window.
Ghilas is an arse hole - when given the chance to prove himself last pre-season, his attitude was shocking. I suspect some foreign team are daft enough to take him. Kilbane is resigned to leaving, but I honestly think he could still do a job for us. Got alot of unjustified stick last season for a couple of bad games. A move to League 1 is probably more likely. As for McShane, I can see him staying and being utilised as a reserve defender, nobody really wants him. On Saviour Kamara, I think we need to look at the facts: He's never been picked for the Sierra Leone national team, which includes players from the likes of Hayes & Yeading and Lincoln (upon researching the Sierra Leone national team, I found a club called 'Mighty Blackpool' over there). We've also never actually seen him play, and although it would be a lovely story if we could help him live a better life in England, we're not a ****ing charity
Kilbane is a potential for Huddersfield, where he'll be on tops £8k unless they've significantly overhauled their wage structure since we were both in L1 together (we had a bigger overall budget, but they were prepared to pay more to individuals than we were). If you're Kilbane and you know they want you why would you sign now rather than at the start of August? You'd be giving up £30k, or £15k take home pay and for what benefit? The chances of breaking a leg like Garcia has is a lot less likely in preseason training, especially when you're avoiding tackles knowing you're about to move. He already knows the manager and most players from his spell there this season so he doesn't need the same time to gel. If you're Huddersfield's management and you want him to sign now you need to overcome that issue. Why with no competition for his signature would you cough up the extra on his signing on fee and pay 6 weeks wages, £61k in total (assuming signing on fees are tax free as relocation payments) when you didn't need to? And nobody could hold it against Kilbane if he tried to keep that little bit of extra money, if he ends up anywhere other than here he'll have effectively given up £13k a week from then until the end of next June by spreading his contract over two years and only serving one of them. Similarly Bullard potnetially going to QPR. They're better to leave him here until the start of August and then bring him in with 2 weeks to go before the start of their season (a week after ours starts) to get to know the players. 6 weeks again saves them over a quarter of a million.
Kilbane will be put out to grass. He will be lucky to get a spot at Grimsby. His appearances at Huddersfield exposed him as a player with no pace and no distribution skills whatsoever and is a mere shadow of the man who won over 100 caps for his Country. He has made a good living out of the game so good luck to the bloke. His personality will no doubt see him popping up in the football media field in the future.
Kilbane actually had a very good time at the Udders(play-off final apart) and had they been promoted, I think he'd already be an Udders player. I still think he might well end up there.
The Huddersfield fans were pretty impressed with Killer, he even scored a couple of goals (on in the play off semi) for them! Unlike Macca at Barnsley, Killer impressed some of the supporters at his loan club so providing the clubs can manufacture a deal then Killer could be at Hudders next season. Good luck to him whatever happens anyway.
I was just going by the report (although I could never find it) that Mr Allam and the Management had stated that they will not be paying contracted players to play with other Clubs this coming season. By that I assumed that they would not be paying the 'majority' of the players contract so he could play for someone else. In Kilbanes case I believe he is on about 13 grand per week which means that Huddersfield (or any other Club) would have to come in with at least 7 grand or above. I couldn't come to terms with this as surely if someone came in with a 4 grand per week offer it was at least another 200 grand off the annual wage bill but I'm not in Club Management. Perhaps it was a bluff by the Club to get anyone interested in Jimmy, Paul or Kevin to come in with a genuine offer. If no genuine offers come in surely we would be better playing Jimmy and Paul seeing as we are paying them? Kevin has gone at the game imo and could not hold a place down in this league.
I can only assume you haven't seen much of Huddersfield lately and never look on any of their boards, as the udders fans were raving about him. I suspect the wage thing is a bit of posturing, the Allam's seem rather keen on posturing, we'll do whatever is best for the club at the end of the day, so if there is a deal on the table and he's not going to play for us, then we'll probably take it(I think that's the case with Jimmy, Oli, Macca and Ghilas too).
What's your point? Huddersfield were offering that to individual players 7 years ago with a pure businessman in charge, and I heard that from someone at the selling club, and from a Huddersfield fan who knew the player personally. Now revenues are up, their arrangements regarding debts from when they were last relegated has been served (3 years they were paying players their overdue wages back over) so their expenses are down, and they have a chairman that's a business man who's said all the club has to meet is the wages, but as a fan as well has said he'll provide the transfer fees.
Tigeroo. I don't know if you if you knew this but Kilbane made 29 appearances for huddersfield during his loan period. Out of those 29 games he played the full 90 mins in the vast majority if not all of them. Also he bagged a couple of goals too. During those 29 games huddersfield lost one game. The play off final which was by his own admission, his worst performance of his loan period.
Then why haven't they beaten a path to our door and made an offer. Huddersfield, according to twitter reports, are not interested in Kevin but are chasing his countryman Damien Johnson. If a League 1 team aren't interested then things are looking very bleak for Kevin from a playing point of view. However, he has a year on his contract at some 13 grand per week so I guess he won't be sobbing into his handkerchief.
Considering he's a very decent bloke, you don't half give him some grief, if he'd taken all his wages when he was due them, he'd be a free agent now, he'd have had all the money his contract owed and he could sign for Huddersfield at whatever they could afford to pay him. He's now stuck with us, due to his own generosity and the fact that he's still on too much money for them to afford. I wouldn't mind, but you haven't seen him play for Huddersfield and your basing all your opinions on not knowing how he performed, along with not understanding the British tax rules. Ignorance is not a good position to come from, particularly when using it to criticise someone.
Sorry, 'scoot', I am going on the facts and (so far) no Club has come in for Kilbane. I wish Kevin well but he has ran out of steam. As you say "He's now stuck with us" - smart move, nobody else seems to want him and I doubt he will figure in our first team next season.
We covered this on another thread, it makes no sense for them to rush to sign him. By waiting another 6 weeks to sign him they'll save themselves over £60k in wages and a reduced signing on fee because Kilbane will have been on his £13k from us instead of £8k from them and a top up of £15k on top of his signing on fee (assuming hs signing on fee is considered a relocation fee and he can get it tax free, if not stick another £15k on top).
I think all the Udders plans were based on promotion, I don't think they'll be spending Kilbane type wages on anyone.
They won't be spending £13k, but £8k is very doable within the wage structure they had 8 years ago with a much smaller available income. It's possible the new chairman has changed it despite the overall budget increasing so that there's less disparity in the squad. Whether they will with Kilbane is a different matter, but I don't expect any of the big earners to leave us before 1st August even if deals have been agreed in principal already.
