In amongst all the other bits and bobs, I'm not sure exactly where to post this, so sod it, new thread - I think this is an interesting piece about Katharina and includes some information I've not seen reported elsewhere. If you don't think it's worth a new thread, then please merge to wherever it might sit best! http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/16/katharina-liebherr-southampton-football-owner-german-markus
Interesting article........I just hope she gets someone in to run the club that knows something about football. I hope she doesn't intend to asset strip as she has it seems with a couple of other companies if the article is accurate..........
I think it's interesting in that there's been a general assumption around here that we've inherited a hard-nosed businesswoman with a myriad skills, rather than a young lady who's inherited an awful lot and may not know quite what to do with it. I've never bought into the former view at all, and my main concern is that although she may have the faculties to be, and might well grow into somebody that can be considered extremely capable, there's no evidence to suggest that she really knows her onions just yet...... .....therein lies one of the elements that worries me, and I don't want someone 'learning on the job' with this football club (before anyone says it, Cortese may have been learning 'football club' on the job, but he had a very clear history and capability in effectively leading businesses).
A bit more paper talk here with a pro Katharina leaning. She's now appointed a London based PR team too. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/nicola-cortese-chose-to-leave-southampton-and-was-not-forced-out-insist-club-9065638.html
This article looks much more realistic and to be honest I don't really think anyone could argue with the premise of her argument
Good spot on these articles. Sounds like Cortese paid himself more or less what he wanted and would now have to agree a salary (which i'd assume would be less). On hearing all the evidence I would say that this is nothing more than a job dispute rather than anything to do with Southampton's present and future. I see it from both sides. Liebherr has a lot of money on the line and it stands to reason that they would want accountability. Cortese has run the business for 4 1/2 years and probably feels he has more than earned the trust of Liebherr to continue as he was. I know that it's very difficult to go from making all the decisions to suddenly being accountable to someone.
If I owned a valuable football club, I would want to be more involved in what was going on, even if all I did was let everything go through on a nod. Obviously she didn't distrust Nicola or she wouldn't have tried to keep him, but perhaps word was getting back to her that not everyone was happy.
