Thanks for all the info everyone. There is some really useful stuff there (apart from the Skegness suggestion - I'll give that one a swerve!)
I visited Boston quite a long time ago and it was lovely, even back then. Vermont isn't a million miles away and that's stunning.
NYC is the only place outside of the UK I would ever consider living. It's the second best city in the world, and Central Park is, I think, my single favourite place on the planet.
I agree it is good. I spent three years in Hong Kong so that would be in my top 5 along with Sydney, NW, London and I would need to think about the 5th
Big cities are the same around the world guys...They are fantastic to visit but when you live there and reality sets in..Its a diffrent story.. SB will back that up I'm sure...!
Croydon, how long have you got and how old are your kids? The polar vortex trapped me in New York a couple of days last week - easily the best travel problem I have had in years of work flying, avoided -28C and a foot of snow in Indy, couple of work calls a day the rest wandering around Manhattan. I could easily spend a month there - food, art, entertainment, liveliness, East coast wit... But pointless with kids. Given 2 weeks and kids I'd avoid 2 cities, do 5 days in NY then fly down to Savannah/Hilton Head and do a week on the beach. It'll be hot and humid but fun for all and Savannah is a great town to spend a day in. As noted above Niagra is impressive for 15 minutes max.
I have about ten days. I have been to NY ten years ago but we want to take the boys this time (13 and 17 and yes both ST holders with me I am delighted to say!) I know ten days is probably too long in NY so am wanting to combine it. I also got some great advice on Loft for Words asking the same question. It looks like Boston might be worthwhile for a couple of days and then a bit of chilling at Cape Cod before flying back from Boston. I might avoid Niagara as I have seen it before and its difficult to cram it all in.
Jack No brainer, or as they say in Boston, no brainah! Has to be Boston. Lived there for 8yrs. Great town. Never got tired of it and still go back every few years. Great sports town too and you will be able to pick up tix for basketball and hockey at reasonable prices. Baseball and football tix a little harder to get the hands on. No problem on getting 'soccer' tickets and worth going to see. Shopping, restaurants, bars? All superb! I would head down to the Cape, if you are there May to Sept. Enjoy!
Niagara on the candian side is much better than from the US and Buffalo is not realy worth visitng. Just try Boston - one of the most pleasant and "european" like cities - and perhaps have a go at Erie (Lake Erie).
