Let's be honest if she had wanted him to stay she probably could have kept him. I'm sure she didn't want him out but she wanted other things more and he was sacrificed.
I think its pretty clear (to me, at least) that she wanted to take some of Cortese's power away from him but he wasn't willing to relinquish it. If it was some outrageous demand of hers, I'm sure Pochettino would have followed Cortese.
Ask any Liverpool fan and it's bad. Scoped it out on their board the other day (he threw his hat in the ring a while ago). Let's just say they're not complimentary as a whole.
Exactly. Or about the sale of players. Poch says he is staying unless key players are sold. If Shaw et all go then he walks and his resignation is not technically linked to Cortes's.
That's the privilege and responsibility that comes with being the boss. I hope KL made the right decision for the right reasons, but I would never blame if she put Saints ahead of Cortese. One could just as easily point out that Cortese could have stayed at Saints and I'm sure he preferred to stay but he wanted other things more than the good of the club.
The Mirror has put a negative spin on it. The positive spin is that Mauricio feels a responsibility to Saints as he is contracted for 17 more months...realistically for him things will be clearer by the summer and the situation may change. He said that no one is for sale...he has either been told that in this window he has the final word or he's stating his position so he has an excuse to walk...I prefer to believe the former. We all know the newspapers have been trying to sell our players from under us. Shaw's value (unless sick or injured...mmm?) will be the same or better in the summer...why would KL be in a rush to sell...is she down to her last few billion? We still have a miniscule chance of Europe (via FA Cup or possibly as low as 7th place)...that could increase the price IF the club was for sale, as would having all our assets (the players) still in place.
Daily Mail (yes, Ashton) is saying that Mauricio is having his contract looked at and fully intends on resigning in the summer.
Things may change by the summer. Things will be clearer and he may decide to leave, but on the other hand he might realise he can work under the new regime. The important thing is that he is staying here for now...we don't want a midseason change. MP's future may depend on Nicola's next job.
I read that he has a legal team going through his contract. If NC was as good as we all think, then the contract is watertight. If there is something in it that links MP to NC or his vision for the club then I am sure MP would already know about it.
I don't believe he's made that decision yet, but if he gets what he wants from Liebherr I don't see why he would be desperate to leave. Think the papers are taking what he said and inferring something different.
We should remember that Katharina has done nothing except put in money and convert our debts to equity. We have no reason to question her intentions apart from NC leaving (and we don't know that story). Cannot see her asset stripping as the club will fetch a good price as a successful PL club with all its assets in place. She may of course make the business decision to sell 1 or 2 players in order to finance purchases or finance the Academy build...perhaps she has some concern about how the books are balancing out (as before, we don't know). For the moment, we are in a good position in the league, our manager and players are in place, and we have a game on Saturday.
Definitely sounds like Cortese convinced him to see out the season. In the interview with Adam Blackmore he said " I spoke with Nicola, and WE decided I have a duty to the players and the fans to continue as manager". He referred to the "We" several times in the interview.
And BBC have him down has saying - "At the end of the season, we will assess the situation and then we will decide whether I am apt to stay at the football club," he told BBC Sport. "I am fully committed until the end of the season and taking this club as high as possible. "It is only normal that we finish the season and then we will see what happens."
The irritating thing in all this is the players response if they think they're playing for someone who's buggering off in the summer. Remember what that did to Tottenham's season when they thought Redknapp was going. Thank goodness for the influence of the World Cup....
Redknapp is a different animal and Tottenham were already sliding prior to Redknapp 'making it known' he was leaving for the England job. Pochettino has much more pride in what he is doing than Redknap and is much more professional.
He doesn't say that. He says "I spoke with Nicola and I told him I have a responsibility... so that's what we decided [to stay on]" The "we" could just as likely (if not more so) be a reference to Pochettino and his staff. He certainly never implied that Cortese convinced him to stay.
Remember we are relying on David's translations and we know he is not perfect...just gives the general gist. MP has given similar interviews on 3 occasions...to Saintsplayer, TV and written press...I suspect the words varied a bit in each interview. On tv, he definitely said I told Nicola my reasons for staying.
