Manchester United boss David Moyes has accepted an FA charge of misconduct following his comments about match officials in the Capital One Cup defeat at Sunderland. Moyes will now face a fine or warning after a disciplinary hearing, which he has chosen not to attend. He was charged after claiming United "were playing referees as well as the opposition" following his side's third straight defeat, in which he was irritated by referee Andre Marriner's award of a free-kick - from which United conceded - and what proved the match-winning penalty to Sunderland. He suggested his side had endured a run of bad decisions, a situation he described as "terrible", adding they were "actually beginning to laugh" at officials' decisions. The FA charged Moyes on the grounds that his remarks "allegedly called into question the integrity of the match officials appointed to that fixture and/or appointed to Manchester United fixtures generally, and/or implied that such match officials are motivated by bias; and/or brought the game into disrepute, in contravention of Rule E3(1)."
Wayne Rooney is unlikely to be fit for Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea on Sunday, with the England striker only rated as 50-50 for the Capital One Cup semi-final against Sunderland three days later. The United players were given Wednesday off but Rooney is expected back into Carrington on Thursday following his warm-weather break in Egypt. He has been doing some fitness work with United’s head of human performance Richard Hawkins – who accompanied him on a similar trip to Portland in 2010 – as well as spending time with his wife Coleen and their young family. Wayne Rooney set to MISS Chelsea clash... and is only 50-50 for Sunderland tie WAYNE ROONEY is unlikely to be available for Manchester United's trip to Chelsea on Sunday as he bids to regain full fitness. David Moyes' hopes of having Rooney fit against Chelsea appear to be receding, while the England striker is rated only 50-50 to make the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Sunderland next Wednesday. Rooney was sent on a warm-weather break to Egypt last week with his family and a United coach, sitting out the victory over Swansea. Moyes wants Rooney to return to the club ready for the second half of the season untroubled by injury niggles. But while the Scot had hoped to play the 28-year-old against Chelsea - who tried to sign him last summer - he is still recovering from an abductor muscle problem. Moyes may not risk Rooney at Stamford Bridge, despite being without strike partner Robin Van Persie. Rooney remains doubtful for United's cup tie with Sunderland, although he will be assessed upon his return to Old Trafford.
Never mind Rooney, ladies & gentlemen, I give you ................. April the 14th 2006!!!!!!!!!! http://espnfc.com/gamecast?id=195375&cc=5739 Sunderland went to Old Trafford knowing they were virtually relegated and had little but pride to play for. United, on the other hand, had to win the game as their last chance to stay in the title race. The teams were a complete mismatch and Sunderland looked like lambs to the slaughter. United had a team including Rooney who'd said before the match that United would win, stay in the title race and brush Sunderland aside. They were going for their 10th successive home win which would be a Premier League record ...... they were on an incredible run of 14 wins in 16 Our manager that night was none other than Kevin Ball who was up against a manager at the top of his game in Alex Ferguson. Ferguson knew that, if they didn't win, it would virtually hand the title to Chelsea where United had to go for their next match. Chelsea had just blobbed their match at Bolton and given United renewed hope that they could snatch the title. Looking back at the two sides is amazing when you think how poor we'd been and some of the players we had out that night. Anyone who thinks Jozy is poor has never seen Jon Stead stumbling around like someone who won a competition to turn out in a testimonial match. His partner in 'crime' up front was as much a Premier League player as I am a Mag. United had Giggs, Ronaldo, RVN and Rooney in attack with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the bench while we had Dumb & Dumber. No surprise that United were the top scorers while we were the lowest in the entire country. Just look at the 2 sides ffs! UNITED Edwin van der Sar John O'Shea Rio Ferdinand Gary Neville Wes Brown Patrice Evra Ryan Giggs Cristiano Ronaldo Ruud van Nistelrooy Wayne Rooney Park Ji-Sung SUNDERLAND Kelvin Davis Gary Breen George McCartney Justin Hoyte Liam Lawrence Dean Whitehead Danny Collins Grant Leadbitter Daryl Murphy Chris Brown Jonathan Stead We arrived in the ground to be greeted with 'going down' & coins being thrown at us from the united supporters at either side ............. they seemed to take offence that we'd gatecrashed their party. (The crowd that night was a Premier League record, 72,519.) The big Sunderland support responded with a full on 'You'll Never Walk Alone' that enraged the entire ground. The scene was set and Sunderland lads pushed out their chests and sang United to a standstill. The players came out to 'Sunderland, Sunderland, Sunderland,' and actually looked up to our section ...... obviously wondering why we'd turned out in such big numbers and why we were taking the roof off. When the game kicked off the Sunderland songs rang out, despite this being 'United's big title game' and the players seemed to respond. I have to say the Lads were magnificent to a man! We had some poor players in that team but every one played out of their skins including an incredible performance from Kelvin Davis!!!! Miraculously Sunderland managed to conjure up better chances and could've scored on more than one occasion. A quote at the time just before the break was, "The Sunderland fans are really enjoying themselves; they have seen their team perform well this half and have really quietened the home crowd." For the last 10 minutes of the game we were all standing tall and singing our heads off while the Mancs were slumped silent & subdued in their seats. Despite a rotten season and relegation it was a proud night to be a Sunderland supporter. We'd travelled, from far & wide, to Old Trafford to see us relegated with a patched up team, a caretaker manager and 15 points from the entire season. But we'd sang our hearts out from the start and the players had responded. We sang ourselves hoarse and the players ran themselves into the ground. Rooney went off crying into his sleeve and Kevin Ball sent the lads over to our corner. They walked over nervously, having taken us down, but we applauded them all to a man. As they trudged off, relegated, the ground was shaking to the away section continually chanting 'WE ARE SUNDERLAND' until we were the only ones left in the ground We braced ourselves, when they eventually let us out, expecting retribution but they'd all vanished ............. here's to Wednesday, Haway the Lads!!!!!!
