Yeah, no players speaking to the press. Think they could have briefed someone like Kelvin or Lallana to put a brave face on things, possibly missed a trick there.
I dont think MP will go but worst case scenario who is in charge on Saturday? If he goes presumably all the back room staff go with him. Leaves us with just Hunter or Doddsy?
The players put in the hard work for him. No one would recognise his style if we had a bunch of **** houses who weren't prepared to run all the time. I agree that the fans aren't owed anything though, we don't count for **** all. I just want one ****ing season in the PL with the same manager. ****.
They don't have to be actors. Why do you assume they'd be too distraught to put a positive spin on things? Kelvin did exactly that when Adkins went. They're professionals, they know how the game works, and they're not going to be as dejected about this as some fans are. Even Shaw, who is inexperienced and tweeted his shock when Adkins went, has been relatively upbeat about it. As for concentrating on football, many of them spend almost as much time talking to journalists these days as they do playing. It's part of the job.
I'm sure he feels a moral obligation to the players and fans, which he may have realised after the emotions die down. Pretty sure that Nicola would have told him to carry on...can't see NC wanting to bring the club down like a house of cards.
I have two things to add to the current situation... then I am burying my head in work for a couple of hours to avoid relentless tabloid speculation. 1. Someone joked about Cortese and immortality. I was thinking about this last night, and in applying the same concept I was taught in Classical Studies at Peter Symonds many years ago, Cortese has effectively made himself immortal amongst Southampton memory. If he had f**ked it all up and gone out with a whimper, people would have always remembered him as the "could/should have been amazing". Having done what he has done in guiding us to an unprecedented revival, he has written himself into our folklore regardless of what happens next. I know for certain that in 30 years time when I am talking to my grandkids, I will be telling them about what he did in a mere 4 1/2 years. I still have hope that this is all part of his masterplan... 2. Moments like this make me remember how lucky we are to have characters like Lallana and Davis in the club. They have both been through it all, act as father figures and are probably playing a massive part right now in preventing a complete and utter catastrophe. It seems a shame that their efforts will only ever be rumors and we will never truly know the extent of potential unrest. Over and out.
Man, its gonna b a loooong wait til 3.00pm. Can all religeous people please get praying/meditating/chanting or whatever. Dont go Mauricio, Nicola was a knobhead, but u we love.
Can we nominate CBK as the voice of the fans, couldn't be worse than the ones that they have been trotting out, could he?
I'm usually a 'cup half full' kinda person, but I can't see any good coming from Mauricio staying or going? If he goes we are in turmoil, if he stays his hearts not going to be in the job and the season slides painfully to a mid-table close. I'm depressed.
I will have to give this a rest. My op is next week and this is making me feel ill. Love Saints, but won't pop my clogs for them. If you leave, Mauricio....my blood is on your hands
Ha, to be fair to Illingsworth he can think what he wishes. I don't know what makes him unofficial official spokesman though, seems to be a relic from events of 10 years ago.
Have been watching SSN, hoping for something new, but it is so boring I resorted to the mute button with subtitles!
I think we'll know in the first 5 seconds of the Press conference. If Poch is resigning today I don't think he will do it front of the media. If he doesn't appear, then it's bad news! Even if he does though, it may just be to say the normal 'life goes on and we are focussed on Saturdays game' line. I'm not sure we'll find out too much.
