It's been described as all sorts of things, depending on which rag you read. West Brom "have accepted a bid from Hull for Shane Long - in a deal which could be worth around £7million for the Baggies" "I understand the fee is a structured figure which could net Albion even more than the potential £6million they agreed with City back in the summer" Birmingham Mail. The "could" must obviously be based on something that may, or may not, happen. The "deal" includes them saving on the potential 18 months of wages they are currently paying him. We've seen this sort of crap before from Journo's - Proschwitz £2.6m
Shane Long is never worth anything close to £7m, never has been and never will be. Turn our back on this aborition we're being robbed blind if the fee is a penny over £5m. Not impressed by this at all. Awful, awful business.
I just do not get it. personally I would be happy to jelavic and sagbo up front. I have utterly nothing aginst Long at all but I just dont think he is as good as the quoted fees suggest. I mean, why would we pay MORE for a player than we agreed during the last window when his contract has run down further plus we have had that time without him. not quite sure on the exact details but for me, we should be paying no more than 3 - 3.5 mil for him. then again, in bruce we trust
He's worth more now because of the position WBA are in! He's also maybe not worth £7m but what he will give us is something we haven't had since Campbell, someone who is quick and wants to get in behind the back 4.
A fee that 'could' rise to 7m. That probably includes scoring a certain amount of goals, staying up, certain league position achieved etc. etc. I would be shocked if it was over 5.5 flat out.
Agreed in part. Nobody knows what the fee is other than the 2 club owners. I would guess @ £4m with add ons if we stay up. WBA need the cash as the owner has said that they need to reign in the clubs spending. Long wont sign a new deal with them so it is good business alround. What complete and utter tosh ^^^^^^ this is.
The HDM (for what it is worth) have said that Hull City want to structure the payments to free up more cash for Steve Bruce to bring in another loan player.
Which just adds to the belief that there will be a lot of triggers in it that will allow us to pay a lot of the fee if/when we stay up.
The pace and style of play that Long will bring to you will create alot of chances for the rest of the team. This season for us Jamie Vardy who uses his pace to get behind the defenders has created so many chances and he has won us at least 5 penalties this season. Nikica Jelavic had a stat when he signed for Everton about scoring loads of goals with his first touch, exactly the type of striker you need to compliment Long's style.
He had a stat at Everton that was 43 goals from 47 touches Proud, or so it said on Talksport yesterday.
Not sure what you are expecting to pay? The only strikers who will guarantee you 20+ goals a season play for the top 6 and cost £20M upwards. Austin nearly cost us £5M and he was unproven at Premier League level and his contract was in his last year. Rhodes (another unproven striker) is being quoted at £9-10M. Yes we could take a punt on another French League 1 player for £3M, but as much as I like Sagbo's passing and holding up play, he hasn't exactly being knocking them in left right and centre has he? Danny Grahams market value is still £4M to £5M so for me those figures for Jelavic and Long are probably right.
