So what makes better business sense? Asset-stripping, or selling as a (healthy) whole? I thought the former was only really a last resort method for saving a few pennies in a bad situation. PS: you might be able to tell that I know **** all about business and how to run one
Just had a thought. Suppose Cortese quit as chairman in order to lead a separate takeover consortium? I'm sure something of this nature has happened before in football. Sent from my RM-914_eu_euro1_337 using Tapatalk
This is honestly my belief. KL can't sell the club for a good profit with him there. I mean, imagine it: "Hey I have this very attractive sporting property available for around 100m. Only condition is you have to fund it and let every decision be made by this guy you've never met." No goddamn way. She wants to sell, thus Cortese couldn't be at the top, but you'd better believe he still wants to be. I would not at all be surprised to see a potential buyer team with him or even be outright led by him.
The take over conspiracy theories are building nicely in the absence of detail and fact. Trouble is a lot of them make perfect sence! NC leading the purchase by Dalian Wanda and building a new stadium/entertainment/leisure complex on the former Ford site......leave me to my dreams.
Why would that be a condition of the sale? The new owners could simply fire him, seeing as how he now works for them. Sure, maybe they'd have to give him a severance package or buy his contract out but it was unlikely to be a barrier. Even when KL was here there was a "break" in his contract last summer where either side could walk away. KL has potentially a ton of money at her disposal. And she controls 100% of the club outright as the executor of the trust. And I think she is probably their chief creditor as well. So how are you going to attempt a hostile takeover under those conditions? If she doesn't want to sell to a Cortese consortium, she won't. And if she wanted to sell to a Cortese consortium, there wouldn't be a problem.
interesting that as of the last annual return of DMWSL 613 LIMITED it looks like the shaeholding is now split 50% between Katharina and Markus. first guess would be that Katharina has received her full 50% Pflichtteil and the rest may be held in trust for the benefit of Markus' spouse for her life time but under the control of and reverting to Katharina.
These are my thoughts too. He always said that he had money in place if required. I know it's short-term thinking but my immediate concern is how the team will react on Saturday. I've not aware of a similar situation anywhere else, where the chairman was also the spiritual leader.
Tweet from Blackmore: "Senior players at #saintsfc last night told me they don't expect an exodus from club - think they have great opportunity to push on in #BPL" The club is more than one man. No reason to panic.
Thats what I was hoping for. The mail claimed the players all threatened to leave yesterday morning! which is clearly untrue.
Of course. If you were a player you'd want to know what was happening before you made a decision like that. If it really is "business as usual", they'd be daft to want out.
Clearly if MP goes some players might want out. I still think if MP was goinmg he'd have gone yesterday. Why spin it out?
I guess there will be a lot of speculation as to what is going to happen to the club. I cannot see that Katharina will try to run the club on her own with no experience of the Football market. She does have the likes of Les Reed around her and it would not surprise me to find him moving up a few steps to take on a more executive roll. It could be that the corporate image of the club was being hampered somewhat by Cortese's style of working. Remember though that was how her father wanted the club to be run. As when he took over there were numerous debts etc to be paid and things were very downbeat. You have to give Cortese credit for putting Saints back on the map and moving the club in the right direction. He will be a success where ever he ends up!! What ever the reasons of the rift it seems Saints are yet again due to start another chapter in their history. Good luck to you Katharina you have a hard act to follow.....I just hope you do not do anything silly, as if you lose the fans ....you will lose the club!
I personally think, Cortese has such an ego, he came to Southampton to create history and doesnt accept second best. I dont think this is the end of his Southampton story. I can honestly see him working on a takeover with someone else. Why else would he be locked into talks with the coaching staff to persuade them to stay yesterday evening?? If rumours are correct, then he handed in his resignation 3 months ago but didnt want disruption so it was kept in house. Now a couple of things, it is probably easier him handling buying the club if he isnt currently there, could be a conflict of interests if he is still in the hotseat running things. I think he would need to seperate himself from the situation to enable the buyout. I personally think the next two weeks are huge, if we can get through those with hopefully all our players and possibly MoPo still at the helm, we arent (hopefully) going to be in a relegation battle, then we have until the summer to sort this out. I wouldve taken £7m for lambert last week but personally now, I would try and resist selling him as it sends out a message all of a sudden if Lambo gets sold. Agents dont need encouraging. What we need to remember, Saints are still an extremely attractive proposition for a potential buyer, much more so than we were a few years ago. We need to all sit tight, stick together and not give Ms Liebherr a barrell load of abuse and support our team. It is her families money after all which saved us from oblivion and we need to remember and respect who she is, she is Markus daughter after all. COYR
Wanting to see out the week or maybe the season for the fans? Same with the players we don't know if some are thinking the same way. Time will tell i suppose.
