HEADLINE: Pochettino confirms he will remain Saints manager.

Summary of Mauricio Pochettino's press conference:

    - First of all I want to show my complete gratitude to Nicola Cortese, on behalf of me, my staff and our families.
    - He (Cortese) is the man who brought me to Southampton and showed his complete faith in me.
    - Eight months ago when this thing was happening we were finishing my first season, I did say I would leave.
    - The situation is now completely different. We are in the middle of a process. It would make no sense to leave.
    - I have spoken to Nicola about my decision, and I have no plans to leave the club.
    - What's quite clear is I have a very good relationship with Nicola Cortese. He agrees with my decision to stay too.
    - Nicola Cortese asked me to do just one thing, and that was to try to win on Saturday.
    - I do not know why Cortese decided to leave. I found out just like the rest of you, last night.
    - It was a surprise to me too, as well as the staff here.
    - I spoke to Katharina just five minutes before this. She pledged her full trust and support to me and my staff.
    - Katharina not only showed her support to me, but to all of the staff here. She just wanted to see me and say hi.
    - I cannot answer that question, on Shaw's future. Luke Shaw has a contract here, and it's a question for the new chairman to answer.
    - I am unaware of any bids for Luke Shaw.
    - I have just spoken to her. It was hello... and goodbye. She just transmitted her full support for the club.
    - It's clear we are all talking about the same thing, which distracts us from the game on Saturday.
    - It's human nature for our minds to be elsewhere. We all had different relationships with Nicola.
    - We are all sad to hear of his departure. I spoke to the players ahead of the announcement due to the rumours.
    - There's something I'd like to add. When Nicola offered me my contract, he told me to always be 100% professional.
    - That is what makes Nicola Cortese stand-out, and he is a stand-out guy.
    - I think it's too soon to talk about my contract. I signed here for two years. I have a responsibility to the club.
    - I only had five minutes to speak to her. She told me that we have her full support and she wants the club to be stable.
    - Katharina does not want this to negatively affect the club.
    - It's too soon to talk about players. We will see in the future how the tasks are unfolded.
    - I am sure someone will be appointed to run the club and to deal with bids or interest in players.
    - I want to make one thing clear to you: no one at Southampton is for sale. And I mean, no one.
    - No player that I do not want to leave, will be leaving this club.
    - The vision of the club is what attracted me. Cortese's vision was so good that he managed to attract me here!
    - It's not a question that I need to answer, it's a question for the owner to answer.
    - All I need to focus on is doing the work I have done so far, and continue that for the rest of the season.
    - The game on Saturday is very important for this club and for our supporters. We must now focus for Saturday.

Hope the translater resigns first, be ironic if the only time Pochettino talks to fans in English is to say he's ****ing off.

He's announcing that now that Cortese has gone he can stop pretending and reveal his true identity, he's Derek from Sheffield and he speaks almost perfect English?

His family are settled in the area, I would be v surprised if he quit. Also, I don't think we've seen the last of Cortese and I reckon Poch knows more than most, he should stick around for the foreseeable future...

Lets face it we are in the dark. Would be devastated if he went but this didnt suddenly happen. It's been brewing for ages and MP must have known as much if not more than most.. He could have walked yesterday as well and he didn't. Why wait until today?

Cortese won't be back. If he really intended to oversee a takeover and remain as chairman he would surely have found that a lot easier to organise in post.

Maybe he was precluded from fronting a takeover while he was chairman? No idea what's going on, we've traded the bus for the rollercoaster again it seems

Yes, that would be a conflict of interests as he would be leading a sale on behalf of the owners, the Liebherrs. If he wants to lead the prospective buyers he has to leave his post (albeit temporarily). And of course he may not be considered the best buyer (just like he/Markus could have lost out last time).

I'm not suggesting he should have "fronted" a takeover, just that he could have had more influence about who bought it if he was still the chairman. He could be in contact with the buyers without actually personally leading the takeover.

I just think it's naive to think he will be back based on a throwaway line from two or three years ago. I'm not sure it would even be a good thing if he came back. He's done a great job but the structures he put in place can be maintained without him.

I feel he owes it to the players to see out the season.

He owes it to the supporters, more so than the players.

I have a draft of Mauricio's press release for 3.00pm

" ee up lads, I'm reet pissed off with ow things ave worked owt. Ah came ere under Nicola, and she made me speek all foreign like to seem all suave and interessin.

Ah can now coom out and speak English like and tell you me names Derek from Sheffield. That's why I ave got young Bille back from readin as ees a reet good un from Baaaarnsley. ahm gunna build me team rahnd him, and get rid of all these bleedin foreigners that Nicola made me buy.

but lads, theres nowt to be mardy aboot as young Nicola is just playin a bit of brinkmanship with that Liebherr lass. look owt for the second coming, but not like that Lowe fella who's a reet badun for sure. this time Nicola will be back with a reet good owner willin to let Nicola spend is munney ow he sees fit.

That's awl fer now as I'm off to put coal in t'bath, feed me pidgeons and watch the rugby league on telly. See you on Saturday at the stadium of light"

Hoping Mauricio can be talked into staying...at least for this season. Come on, how many of us thought this season was going to peter out and be boring? Don't expect an early return for Nicola (never say never)...just wishful thinking on our behalf. He will get himself a nice job within months. That's the problem with personality cults...we're feeling lost without him. The worrying thing for me is that he wasn't sacked...he chose to leave and therefore there was something happening that he didn't like. Not necessarily a catastrophe, but a change of direction. Plain gutted.

Would you want to be? This will be tightly controlled by the club.
