I said on Superman's thread that I believe the board will stick with Hughton for a short while yet, simply because they didn't sack him at the opportune moment in early December when the new manager could have assessed the squad and had a transfer window.

With that in mind, looking at the Villa fans' discontent and there run of fixtures, there is a possibility that Lambert could be sacked and available before Hughton is.

A lot of bad blood there, I know, but do you think Lambert would come back?

Would anyone want him? His football at Villa is dire, but I think that's partly the nature of the players he has.

Lincoln City had Colin Murphy back 3 times before they discovered that going back is a backward step! Our second time with Mike Walker should be enough of a clue!

He'll never recapture the magic of his first stint and will only tarnish his reputation mote than he did when he left.

No he wouldn't return - it's not on his agenda. I suspect he has a supportive owner and the Club is only half way through a 3 year plan which would make his job safe. The point I would take issue with is 'dire football' Earlier in the season I was visiting London and a friend treated me to go with him to Stamford Bridge for Chelsea v Villa. Villa played way way better than I have seen our lot play this season and would have won but for a disgraceful decision by the Ref. The football was not dire nor was it on Monday against Arsenal.

It is an interesting question Rob but the answer has to be a resounding no from both sides. The dust-up when he walked was so bad that it would not be recoverable, McNally would not entertain him and the same vice versa. PL would never recreate the good feelings that he was able to give us as he would be starting in the top flight rather than the 'sleeping giant' at the foot of League 1 and it owuld be an uphill battle as it is now. As has been posted, going back is never a good thing in principle and the players would be suspicious of him with the history that he has. PL was the king pin when he came from Colchester, I don't think he would be viewed in awe in the same way by the current group.

Please let's just concentrate on the here & now. We need to give total support on Saturday and hope for a performance from the team and a result to match, and then the same for the next game.

As I and others have said many times, we have a terrific Chief Exec in DMc who we can trust to make the right calls at the right time. We need to continue to have confidence in his judgement.

Never mind Lambert, if things carry on as they are at Southampton we might get Pochettino

Is it "Owners upset your club" month or something, first Allam was at it (again) with Hull, now it's Southampton's turn. Can we bring in Cortese to alongside McNally? That'd be fun.

Apparently Southampton have accepted his resignation!

Also rumours Pochetino plans on quitting after the next round of fixtures. Depending on our result he could finish the match, drive to Norfolk and have a job by the end of the evening!

Apparently their owner has installed herself as a non-executive chairperson

Yep this is all well and good but you would have to find a job for his best bud, and the role he would want is already filled!

Seriously, do any of you guys know anything about Cortese and Pochettino. I would guess not, else the likelihood of either of them signing on at Carrow Road would surely have dawned. <ok>
