Just got back from walking the dog and have read through the thread. Tbf to Tobes, yes it WAS a dig at Fergie (for which I don't apologise, he (Webb) was ****ing terrified of the man, as were the FA), but yes, I take your point too Sm1thy, Webb isn't United's puppy any more (and a few other refs seem to be free of the OT shackles too), but he's still dire. I'd give Sian Massey a whistle now. She's shown she has the eyesight and judgement, but we'll only find if she has the bottle if she gets big games.
Webb was actually a very good referee. But he has been poor over the past couple of years, where he favours the big teams. Sian Massey is the best official in the PL by far! Bring back Uriah Rennie ...
i have only seen Massey as a lineswomen, but i don't think she has got a decision wrong yet, i remember at one point what seemed like they was over analayzing everything she done, but she got them all correct to my knowledge, stats like that deserve more credit and should be rewarded more, but i don't know about her refeering games.
Bar his bottling of big decision to avoid the lime light, I actually think he is still a very good referee and he has a good relationship with a lot of players too. But not giving a penalty or red card to avoid being in the spot light simply isn't good enough!
As you say, she's been more scrunitised than any official, including most of the refs, and has come through with flying colurs. We'll only know if she can handle pressure if we give her a go. They used to say the same things about Michealla Tabb in snooker and pool until they gave her a chance. Point is, if you have the ability that should put you above this 'in' club of reputation that our referees operate on. Refs like Webb are ****, and refs like Dowd make perverse judgements just to show who's the 'boss'. She seems to just make continuously RIGHT decisions on the actions in front of her.
Michaella Tabb is a brilliant ref, and she has a nice bum cant believe mediocrity ie Webb is being rewarded, yet talent like Massey over looked.
P.C Plod has always been a shocking ref imo. The final nail in his coffin should have been the world cup final when he ruined it for everyone. I really hope he makes another massive blunder in the next world cup.
