I'm not really having a go at -DTLW. I just get rather piddled off with press speculation. The media have been at Saints all year. These players will leave, that manager will go, and now the Chairman himself is on the way out. How on earth is there ever to be a settled club in Southampton with all that going on..? And just when the club is on the brink of breaking through to the big time. It's almost as we are not allowed to sit at the top table and it galls me a bit.

Adam Blackmore, BBC Solent's Sports Editor is writing a piece which will go out on the Radio in the morning. He believes that the Ben Smith story has some credibility.

Same here. Can you imagine if someone as warped as Rupert Lowe turned up..? I couldn't take that again. I think I'd go and do something like stressful like parachute jumping.

Surely he'd at least secure us a worthy replacement before he left?

They're not happy. They're playing Mansfield this weekend. There's no way they're happy.

Simon Peach seems to think it is brinkmanship as well.

If that is what it is, I really wish he wouldn't scare us so much.

Same, I would rather Cortese say give me some money or **** off. Then go through this stuff for the whole season again.

Just have to see how it plays out. Liebherr's have the wealth but Cortese has the drive.

Could be any number of things.

If Cortese stays we'll have the ambition, if he goes and the Liebherr family remain owners then I'm confident we will be run properly. If they both decide to go then its the wheel of fortune.
I'd also have faith that if we were sold that the family would select a reasonable buyer

Seems really odd to make the same play twice.

Well the club's worth a lot now, so any new buyer would have to be very wealthy. I just don't want one of those foreground chairman types of guys who just do it as a fun little hobby to spend all their oil/gas money on.

Oh christ. I was happy to ignore this for a few days, but now it's picking up pace (plus the possibly unrelated but maybe not Pochettino story from a few days back) I'm starting to worry. I wish I could live in TSS' world of stubborn denial :(

Actually, I meant a consortium put together by the likes of a Rupert Lowe. It doesn't bear thinking about. :)

I don't live in a world of denial, Dan, but neither do I needlessly inflict upon myself worry and disappointment. You see, you are now beginning to worry, and I had a wobbly moment, but now I've got it settled in my head. :)

Thats the good news. What would be your valuation? I'm thinking about £80m-£100m

If we all raise £1000 each then...maybe not

The "ahh it's nonsense" approach everyone took to the Adkins story for a few hours didn't work out either. I'd rather accept the possibility Cortese won't be here forever now, so I can act more rationally when and if it happens. This story is picking up pace, and when respected journalists like Ben Smith get involved, it's probably time to stop ignoring it.
