Looks like he's definitely joining us! Arrived in London for his medical. please log in to view this image Ramires - Matic Willian - Oscar - Hazard Hopefully we can sign Luke Shaw and a decent striker in the summer and our team will finally be complete
This boys turned round in a BIG way since we last let him go! He is going to be a massive aquisition!
I'll be honest i've barely seen him play, aside from the Europa League final in which he was probably the best Midfielder on the pitch. What can we expect from him? Is he a holding midfielder or someone who can distribute the ball from deep? Or both?
He is a box to box player, very athletic. He is a big boy at 6"4 but he can play, he has become a very good player on the ball and is quite creative. If I was to compare his style of play to anyone it would be Yaya Toure!!
only time will tell; atleast we are sort of balancing our books by this purchase & KDB sale. Financially it will not be sooooo ridiculous! having said that I do wonder like all fellow blues - 3 M Matic comes back as 20+ M ; Imagine what would take for a 16 M KDB?
We got him to replace Lamps first time. He was big fish in a small team before. He was patient for a year with us, then slowly got tired of waiting, plus when he did get a start he wasn't special. I remember the hype over him when he came back then, it was a lot to live up to and he bought into it too. I'd be happy to see him in the team, but you can shake off the fact that even if he does well for us in future, is he worth the 27 million loss we'd make?
I hope we don't sign Luke Shaw. Matic will be a big addition to our team though. No more bullying from the powerful midfields like City. We can match them now.
Clearly he's 3rd choice there at the moment. If in the summer we sign a left back and Dave moves to rb then Jose will likely move Ivan back to cb as he is definitely one of his favs. I really think we'll cash in on Luiz now.
Matic is going to be a great addition, plus he is left-footed which adds even more balance to our team. Luiz also has his uses, he is a great ball-player and has been great against Liverpool and Hull, in midfield. If we were to go back to the proper 4-3-3 that Jose loves, then Ramires-Luiz-Matic would be perfect. Although with our attacking players it would unlikely to fit them in, unless it was a false nine 4-3-3.
Don't know what your problem with Luiz is. He's a great asset to the team and has put in stellar performances since being moved into midfield. For me at least he's earning his spot. We'd me mad to get rid of him and Jose clearly sees a use for him.
If Matic is a success, I think we may only need a striker in the next 18 months or so. We have so many defenders, midfielders and attacking mids out on loan who can make up the squad in that time. Depends of course on what happens with Mata and Luiz as well as they could easily be sold in the summer. However I think it is almost certain Ba and Eto'o will go in the summer. I think we'll keep Torres. He's the best of our current forwards and the club will probably keep him to save face as much as anything whilst he still contributes. Think that means 2 strikers needed in the summer of which surely one will be Lukaku. That aside, with players like Courtois, Wallace, Traore, Ake, Piazon, Omoreu, Challobah out on loan we really shouldn't have to spend big for a while as long as we get some of these players playing minutes.
I guess your idea of stellar and mine are somewhat different. Against LFC he made zero tackles and had an appalling pass completion rate. Also as Jose has only used him there when Mikel was absent and Lamps injured it says that Jose doesn't rate him there either and is playing JT/Cahill at cb ahead of him.
Talking of Luiz - Didn't Barca offer something like 35mil? You should have snapped their hands off. Matic is a big gamble in my opinion. On his day he's immense but on other days he's pretty average. Can't believe he's already being compared to Yaya He's coming from a ****e league, my feeling is he'll become another expensive bench warmer. Time will tell, but you have to ask yourself why he was sold a few years back for next to nothing? Yeah he's improved, but in a very average league - will be interesting to see how he get's on
'Could' being the vital word Seriously though, if he comes back and makes a huge impact then fair play to the lad.
He only has to outplay lamps Mikel Essien and van ginkel is out. probable he could be first choice alongside Rambo tout suite
