I don't know what's more hilarious, your endearing nickname for Villa's resident Orc (him, Shelvey and Obertan really should be concentrating on killing hobbits), or the fact you called yourselves football fans... You support Sunderland, let us know when you start playing football <whistle>

You may think of yourself as funny & humourous but in reality you're about as funny as a dose of aids, rabies or leprosy.
Not speaking for everyone on here but I personally think you are a boring knacker.

I'm a little bemused & dumbfounded ATM. Usually your 'back' is quite reliable for a reasonable chat without the personal digs. Look I'd be quite upset too If my sister was a dirty lass on Geordie shore.

What a pedantic ****wit you are! Why wouldn't the ref think like that - Things in peripheral vision distract. That is a fact. I'm not "convincing" myself of anything - I have an opinion which I'm entitled to. You have your opinion and it differs to mine - No problem - but I'm still entitled to mine. Was Giaccherini rightly ruled offside for us against Villa? He was level - cameras proved that - the only thing cameras proved for your goal was that he was in an offside position

    Taken directly from the FA.

FIFA Laws of the Game 2013-14

    Offside position

It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.

A player is in an offside position if:

he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent
A player is not in an offside position if:

he is in his own half of the field of play or
he is level with the second-last opponent or
he is level with the last two opponents
    Offence

A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:

    interfering with play or
    interfering with an opponent or
gaining an advantage by being in that position
    No offence

There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:

    a goal kick
    a throw-in
    a corner kick
    Infringements and sanctions

In the event of an offside offence, the referee awards an indirect free kick to the opposing team to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred (see Law 13 - Position of free kick).

Now, is the Gouff in a position that could interfere with play/Hart? It comes down to two issues for me.

    1) Harts peripheral vision. The Gouff is about a metre or so away from him. Could his positioning have played on his mind? Possibly.

    2) The notion that Hart would not have saved it anyway thus Gouff's positioning makes no difference.

The problem here is, nothing is fact (100% fact anyway). Had I been the ref (and neutral) and having seen similar goals scored and allowed, I too would have allowed it. As it is, it was disallowed. Was I seething at the time? You bet I was however bad decisions happen to all clubs. Sunday was (in theory) our turn.

Exactly, then we all know where we stand. I've never understood this "active","inactive" rubbish.

But when goufferon moved he became active thus stopping the ball hitting him.making him offside.iits the same as been hit by the ball then he would have been automatically off side.it was his movement that made I'm offside.not blocking the vision of the keeper

In the heat of the moment it was one of those which may go either way but I think the Ref got it spot on. He's definitely interfering, he's only a couple of yards from the goalkeeper. If a player stood in that position for a free kick and the free kick went to that side of the goal there'd be no complaints about him putting the keeper off, the only difference being it would be a premeditated distraction rather then the unintentional distraction in yesterdays game, however, the infringement remains the same, he was a distraction in very close quarter to the goalkeeper.

I'd be asking what the **** is Gouff doing dawdling about the six yard box miles away from the defensive line.

Page 19. Does Gouff's reactionary movement away from the ball (in the split second) throw off Hart. I'd say not.
