I think in a more attacking team on our own and being given the confidence of a manager willing to take you out of the Chamionship and play you in the Premier league will get Holty going. We know what hes good at: winning free kicks, holding the ball up and scoring when given chances in and around the box. Top signing for them and presumably cheap......

Wouldnt sign him for us again, then again I would feel for any striker coming here like I do Hooper and RVW.

I thought Holt would be great for Wigan but it hasn't happened. Trying to re-heat the souffle at Villa is a long shot for all concerned and shows the financial difficulties that Villa have as this would never have been on the cards earlier. I wonder if PL ever regrets his move to Villa Park deep in his heart.

If Holt is being brought in as backup then it's a good signing by PL, he scored some vital goals for us last season, remember the match where he snatched a win in the last couple of minutes of the game?, wins like that can make all the difference in the Premier League.

Against Everton, found the link now:

Panic setting in at Villa Park looks like, I don´t begrudge Holt the chance by the way, but strange how every decision that Lambert makes gets fairly roundly applauded on these boards, while whatever Hughton tries is normally ridiculed. Let´s see if he actually scores any, if indeed the move comes off, the Villa fans weren´t too happy before this, and I´m not sure that this will make them feel a lot better.

You have all misunderstood Holt's move...

    It's 'Agent Holt'.

God i hope he does a Tom Daley against you boys, slams in the penalty to put you in the bottom 3, Justice.

And the beauty of it is you can't complain a single iota because those sort of tactics got you where you are now!

The best part of it is I don't remember Holty diving ever actually winning us a match. We got a penalty against Southampton which he promptly missed, but usually he was (correctly) ignored

Yep, definately a bit of bitterness in there, can't deny it. We had 4 years of you lot saying its ok to go down at the slightest touch of breath on his back, so im sure you can forgive me that.

I think Lambert will get the best out of him, would any defence like to see Holt and Benteke bearing down on them!

Nothing quite like inventing your own version of events is there Guru?

Most people on here specifically said Holt going down easily was frustrating and ended up disrupting our attacks more than helping. And there was a lot of embarrassment about the Southampton incident which is the only big one I can remember off the top of my head

Much as I still wish Holty well, I can only see it as an act of desperation on Lambert's part. He'll be 33 in two months from now.

If Holty is not deemed good enough to play for a decidedly average Wigan team in the Championship and has not found his fitness yet I just don't see him being able to cut it for a decidedly average Villa side. That said if he comes with a view to being an impact sub his energy and enthusiasm will probably go a long way.

If it happens I wish him well - he deserves a final hurrah.

Probably in the end yes i would agree with you, but your championship year and first year back in the prem it was a running joke.

I can remember 4 or 5 instances in the championship season where he went down to gain an advantage, Against us in the delaney sending off is one and your game against sheff utd at home is another that spring to mind.

Anyways, who would have though 18 months ago i would be supporting Holt in doing a Daley, strange world! and they say fans aren't fickle!

After all these years on 606 and not606 I should be used to reading twaddle but some things on this thread take the biscuit. Where do I start? Holty is a PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER - put simply he plays for whoever pays him the most. There are many examples of, say, kids being brought up Everton supporters who join Liverpool. At the moment Holt is unhappy at a Championship club with a new manager who does not want him. He is being offered a last 6 months at a Premiership Club under a Manager who turned him from a league 1 striker into a Premiership striker but the inference in the OP is that he should turn down the opportunity because Villa are in the same league as another club who gave him his best years. Really?
Villa are in desperate trouble- really? Did you watch last nights game? Did you see the fight and effort of the players? Although they were not the better team - they were playing the league leaders after all - they could have got a point. If City were playing Arsenal, lost Seb to injury and then went 2-0 down with an hour to go anybody else care to guess what the final score would have been? Villa are 11th in the league 5 points clear of the bottom 3 and in their remaining games 8 are against teams beneath them in the league. I wish City were in that much desperate trouble.
Holt is a rubbish panic signing - really? I seem to remember a thread on here recently suggesting that WE got Holt back not because of his playing ability but because of his influence around the club. Isn't that what Villa are doing? With the experience all through our squad it really wasn't necessary but the Villa squad is full of youngsters who do need that help. PL said in his interview that Holt would provide enthusiasm, experience and leadership in the dressing room referring to him as a ' real man ' and the analysis after the game by Neville and Carragher suggested that as the reason for the signing. On the playing side he is finished - most people accept that - but he will provide cover, without starting games, and is still up to coming on with 15 mins to go with Villa 1-0 down and causing enough trouble to get an equaliser?
Lambert is picking on City by going after Holt and Wes - a tactic he has not used before - really? Firstly Holt is not a City player. secondly Wes is probably only interested in a move because Hughton doesn't play him - Lambert will - and thirdly how many players did PL sign in his 3 years here who he had managed before? To be honest I am surprised he hasn't been back before.
I could go on but have probably upset enough people already.

    Well said 1950. <ok>
The life of a professional football player (on the pitch and being effective) is indeed fairly short and it therefore makes sense to go where they can best prepare for life after the boots are hung up.
In his case, time spent with a manager who trusted him, stuck by and nurtured him - rather than stay put - and become increasingly frozen out by a manager whose plans he doesn't figure in .... bit of a no brainer, really. As long as 'er indoors and the three lasses have no objection.

Yep! Makes a lot of sense in their situation to sign someone the manager knows imo
