http://www.gateshead-fc.com/4750/gateshead-sign-ryan-noble Ryan Noble leaves Burnley by mutual consent after only a year? I saw this lad from a youth to almost our first team in the EPL and had very high hopes for him. I was disappointed when he left us for Burnley but thought the move might have seen him kick on. Now he is playing for Gateshead until the end of the season? Bloody shame IMO and can he pick his career up after this huge step backwards?
Blimey. Just goes to show how hard it is to make it in the big leagues. I remember this lad described as the next big thing after his performances in the reserves. Hope he turns it around but it's hardly looking good for him.
Shows the gulf between youth and the professional leagues. Glad we're boarding our horizons in our youth recruitment as a 100 local Nobles will still earn us nothing incur more costs. We've no choice but to give up on local talent as it will never amount to anything until the FA and the government reform grass roots football. If it wasn't for Henderson the Academy would be running at a loss I can only presume as I don't think the pittance we got for Waghorn and Leadbitter would have covered the costs.
Not a lot considering it cost 10million to build the academy, then you have to staff the thing. The route we're taking we could produce two dozen waghorn's and leadbitter's from all over the globe and get a few more hendos for the first team to boot. that's definitely not to be sniffed at. Better than the peanuts we got for those two lads. The academy has been going to waste. Thank god for Short i say
The academy has been going to waste? What the actual ****? The academy has turned a massive profit almost from day 1, as well as providing a training & medical base for the club. Absolutely & utterly bizarre statement. From what I hear Noble was a Billy Big Balls with **** attitude, shame, as he looked a finisher. I doubt we'll see him far back up the ladder.
Yes, if you don't recognise my sentiment. Obviously I mean in terms of what it actually could do. I'm talking about actually fulfilling it's potential by widening our scouting and recruitment network. Am I typing in foreign. Or out of order for saying a useful money making tool can do more?
Any academy that opens takes years to start to yield regular talents, you don't open the doors and people rush in, it takes years to find the youth, most importantly get them to choose your academy, and develop them into first team contenders. I'd suggest that our academy is way ahead of schedule. For the first 3-4 years it was open, local talent would still choose Boro, as their academy had reputation & respect, I can't loom at our academy as anything other than a success, and one that will constantly grow.
I agree. I've no gripe, just glad it's becoming more ambitious. Especially with the state of grass roots football which is my gripe.
Colback How much would it cost to buy a English player of his caliber ? Can play 2 positions, decent on the ball, runs his socks off etc. We havent made money off him, cos we havent sold him but he has saved us a few million Christ, if he hadnt been available to play LB last season I have no idea how we would have coped.
I agree Pecs, took me lad to watch our reserves playing Blackburn at Leigh two seasons back and Noble was starting with Campbell up front for us, Nobles head went straight down the minute it wasn't falling for him. Also as you say, he seemed very much up his own arse, barking at his team mates when it was his own deficiencies that were being exposed.
IIRC he came on briefly for some cup game at SoL...but never emerged again...Hell on was the phrase, something to do with a loudmouth Dad
Aye, Colback too. Think folk have miss understood what I've been meaning. My gripe is that the state of grass roots football has limited the quantity of decent talent coming through our doors and it's a relief we're recruiting elsewhere as if we continue to wait on local talent it will be a waste of a wonderful facility. I sometimes don't word things right. Love our academy me.
