Yeah remember the early days when everybody agreed....stupefying, must say I disagree with the majority on this Malky issue and a lot of the Bas stuff, though not a supporter of the man I do think the majority are not taking a balanced view based on facts yet.

Many years ago a young manager was appointed to Watford, and with the backing of a good chairman was told to get on and build the club. The chairman was thought of as a bit of an oddball and was not welcomed in some boardrooms . The manager had been sold the idea of making the club something special, a chance to develop the team and lift them from poverty to a place in the top division in the country.

That young manager is much older now and has seen football with all of the good and bad that comes with it. He can pass on some of his wisdom to the current manager about staying until you can do no more.

The fact is though we don't know just how much backing the current owner is prepared to give, and has the point been reached where the current incumbent can do no more.

That is the nagging doubt on all our minds! Although some are more optimistic than others:)

Spot on Aberdeen - I am totally fed up with these threads based on web rumours and ****e journo's. I have no trust of Pinocchio and would not trust him at all, but until I see some facts I am not going to fuel these threads with more bollox...to be honest, it's all rather dull

Trouble is OFH the Chairman was worth a bob or two - had only success behind him and had never been bankrupt :(

Leo, I was just trying to think that maybe MM had been sold a dream that would want him to stay. GT was linked with most clubs if I remember, but he wasn't interested.

There are huge differences between then and now. GT ran the club from top to bottom and did what he thought was right. His backing was 100% and I doubt somehow that MM knows that to be the case now.

I did read some time back now that most of the money that EJ put into the club was spent on the ground. If you looked at the transfer fees in and out they were not that far apart.

Yes Leo, I cannot see any comparison with Baz and Elton John.

Chris, not sure what to say except Baz used to have a small time property development business, it went bust owing money to my friend and plenty of others. Then he had a carwash business in Mill Hill. At about this time he went bankrupt, not huge numbers but bankrupt nevertheless.

And then he turns up at Watford FC. In comparison to our previous chairmen - all of SEJ, Petchey and Ashcroft are in the Sunday Times Rich List, he doesn't really get a mention.

If people want to believe in Baz then ok you can, but please don't criticise when someone gives you the detail. Baz's mother lives in a million pound house in Stanmore, but that's not difficult around here.

Interesting split of opinion similar to here in many ways!

Hughton to Brum Shearer to Cardiff Mclaren to Forest! Dare we hope!

This is what happens when you get "star-struck" owners --it is like us with Vialli. I don't expect Shearer to last long there--he will make demands, get rebuffed, fall out and leave. But then Cardiff had better not come back to try to tempt Malky again. They had their chance and missed it . I wonder how Malky feels? Did he really want the job, and feel Shearer snatched it from him? If Shearer really was "invited" to apply after the others had been interviewed that is not very ethical behaviour by the owners. Maybe a narrow escape Malky! But he is a realist, and will soon put this behind him.If he is indeed staying he will be providing much needed continuity, inspirational leadership and sound judgement. Chances of staying in this division this season just went up by 100%.

Err ..... what! Shearer to be Cardiff boss and Hughton to be Birmingham boss.

OK me thinks this is time for Baz, GT and any wise heads to sit down with Malky and plan the year ahead.

What is Malky's budget and NO interference - Baz can go off and manage the Saracens problem on a "day to day" basis. GT can manage the direct football side with MM.

Baz, hands off the football side - leave it to Malky and GT. Let's hope this works.

OFH - Between 1977 and 1984, SEJ put about £2m into the club, £1m was the 1979 Football Grounds Act, when the ground capacity was cut from 36,000 to 28,000 as the terraces were concreted over (anyone remember the tinder surface????) and lots more crush barriers. Oh yes and £1m on transfers like Steve Sims £175k, Pat Rice £20k and a few others as the club rose from Division 4 to Division 1 in JUST 5 YEARS

Elixir... according to Oliver Phillips, £328,684 of the chairman's loans had gone towards players; the rest had been spent on ground improvements.

Well, although there is still a lot of copy/paste journalism going on (and you may have guessed I'm not the media's biggest fan) it does look increasingly like Sheep Shearer (remember where you saw that headline :)) will be announced as our new boss, poss tomorrow. I still hold out some hope until the official announcement but that is fading fast.
You Hornets have shown yourself to be a decent bunch over the past week or so and a credit to your club, considering how frustrating and anxious a time its been. <applause>

I'll just wish you and MM all the best for next season and look forward to seeing you at VR and CCS.

    KTF Hornets <ok>

Thanks H bomb, that's what this site should be about - the fans.

I'm not sure what Malky MacKay's "long term" future might be, but I sincerely hope he will continue his good work here at Watford next season, and that he will be with us next Summer after a record breaking year!

    Take care.
