Hope you're wrong too, I know a lady supporter in the East Stand, I'd hate to think it was her.

Very unlikely given the amount of people in that stand, this was all over twitter last night, not the sort of thing that I think people would lie about for attention.

    Awful. RIP.

I hope I go sat at the match though. Or in my sleep. No suffering please, watched too many close to me suffer in recent years (although you could say at the match is some Saturdays!) My old man had it right, massive hearty in his sleep, doctors reckon pain would have been large but only for a very brief moment.

I'd hope like cbrad says it is not some weird warped lie. I'd imagine a few people have suffered a similar fate through the years at football. It does get the old blood pumping. There were some bulging neck veins on Saturday when he disallowed that goal. I thought the bloke two along from me was going to go flying over the top of the people in front. Took him till about 65mins to stop talking about it.

How is it unlikely? It could have been anyone.

    update from the chronicle

A woman is today fighting for her life after she collapsed outside of St James’ Park yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the ground at around 1.40pm, before the Magpies took on Manchester City, after a woman in her 70s collapsed.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 13:38 to St James Park following reports that a woman in her 70s had collapsed. We arrived on scene at 13:40, and the crew delivered CPR. The patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”

A Northumbria police spokeswoman said: “At 1.34pm on Sunday January 12 police received a report that a woman in her 70s had taken ill outside the ground.

“The woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where her condition is described as critical.”

Hope she pulls through ok, it would be terrible to lose a long standing fan at the game.

    Terrible for her family too.

Good luck to the old lass and I sincerely hopes she pulls round...My mother attended games at Sunderland until she was 81, but settles for watching the games in her local pub or on her computer for the last couple of years..
