I think anything CH does would pull a critical comment from you at the moment VC , have you really watched this guy so much to have such a strong opinion of him , I am prepared to welcome him to Carrow Road and let him show what he can do.

Lets get behind the team and stop whining at every action

Being hirsute myself for over 40 years, I for one mourn the loss of BJ's beard! Nothing wrong with being hirsute! :smiley-finger007:

Yep - any signing clearly adds to the team in a positive way, so should always be considered a good thing. And even if people are underwhelmed, they should be at least prepared to give a guy a chance - innocent until proven guilty, etc!

VC - I think we all accept that Gutierrez hardly solves all of our problems, but even you will have to admit he brings something to the team in the way of experience and nous which many have said is lacking. There are more than two weeks left of this transfer window to help shore up the gaps in our squad which Gutierrez clearly has not been brought in to do. I, too, will be disappointed if Gutierrez is our only signing, but not because I don't think Gutierrez is good enough, it will be because I won't think we will have attempted to solve all our major problems.

And Hughton specifically said he was brought for his "experience" who won't have "that settling in period that you would have with some other players" and the he can play on "either flank or in the centre". That tells you all you need to know about the reasons Gutierrez has been brought in.

Now if Hughton had said "I've brought in Gutierrez for his passing ability and creativity", then I would be worried!!

I'll admit to being initially underwhelmed and disappointed with the JG link at first, but that was mainly due to the £50k p/w wages and quoted £3m transfer fee for a 30 year old. On loan when I doubt we're paying more than half those wages, I think he's a good addition to the squad, if only as cover for Pilkington. It doesn't sound like we're finished in the market yet either.

    Newcastle fan here -

Jonas wasn't always the greatest going forward, but he works very hard in midfield. He can play as a winger, defensive mid or a makeshift fullback if you are full of injuries. He will provide cover for your fullbacks, he can go in well with tackles, he can take a lot of damage, and despite not being as quick as he used to be, he can draw a lot of fouls in from opposition players and wins you a lot of freekicks due to the clever way he uses his feet and moves his body.

He'll probably only score you 4-5 goals all season, which isn't that much, but when he scores they're usually stunners. Most of his good work comes in the middle of the park, and he brings passion, stamina and hard work in to the team.

If you have a good fullback, then he'll form a good defensive partnership with him, and keep that side solid.

I don't think he is just 'cover for Pilks', but competition for both Pilks and Snods as well as another option in the centre. City have a good squad that has just been strengthened, so let's stop some of the negativity!

Thanks for your contribution B3! <applause>

Good move by CH, will also help Pilks in the long run, who as we know, is far from reliable fitness-wise. <ok> Also will help to put pressure on Snoddy, who needs a bit of a kick, as Redmond can now pop up on the right.

Apparently stemming from a cinema trip during his time at Real Mallorca, when a boy asked if Gutierrez could score for him and the Argentine said he would put a Spiderman mask on if he did so as that was the boy's favourite film.

Facebook reacts to the news of Gutierrez joining....

"I suppose this could be a decent signing if he is able to supply the under-performing strikers. Would prefer a new manager though."

"Defence shipping goals sign another midfielder excellllleennnt."

"Will be good company for felllow Argie Becchio on the bench!"

"bad signing. whittaker and martin are both better fullbacks!!"

"So he joins on loan but then won't be able to play against Newcastle in the next couple of weeks - good planning"

"Good deal I must say need a bit of experience at the back and someone to control the back 4"

"Oh dear this has signalled our relegation and confirmed clueless Chris is exactly that... Jonas is awful...."

"another panic signing by a Manager who is grabbing at anything to stop relegation, which won't happen."

    "bassong off Jonas Gutierrez in"

"Here we go with the loan signings again, back to the bad old days of players just keeping fit for their own team, with no real commitment to their loan side . . . . Championship here we come. Thanks Chris and the board for all you're doing for the club . . . . . . . . .not!"

"Another mercenary. When will the board learn, highly paid bench warmer."

He will give 100% for you but sometimes his final ball can be dreadful.

it is all rather sad; it is very very difficult to see how this loan deal is a bad move in anyway, it would be nice, just for once, if people stopped to think about the reasons for taking Jonas on loan, but i guess thinking objectively is beyond many people

Just had a quick peek on the Newcastle board and this sounds moderately encouraging for all those worried that he is our left-sided Snodders:

    I am happy with this.

Always rated him and think he gives us a bit of experience and stability on the flanks.

Already upto speed with PL football and ready to go!

And another comment from the Toon board:

So, again, for all you worrying Hughton just buys pacey guys to hit long crosses, sounds like Gutierrez is absolutely the opposite!!

Let's just hope he isn't asked to put any crosses in...
