If Ronaldo doesn't win it this year, then it will be a disgrace, and the Ballon Do'r will lose all credibility. I agree Ronaldo has improved since leaving united, though that was to be expected as he gained more experience. After all he was only 24 when he left us.

Even in his time with us though he was still the best player the PL has ever had IMO:biggrin:

Not sure then I take it.

I hope he does, that be more triumphant for football than some silly balloon award.

Not true. He was fantastic for 1 season, very good for 2 seasons. Out of 6 seasons. Never good enough to earn the best PL player ever award.

Quality over quantity. He had far more natural talent than any other player that has played in the PL, and that's why he won the Ballon Do'r as a PL player, something no other player has won since the PL began. SAF even says he's the most talented player he's ever worked with:biggrin:

he deserves the award this season, definitely. He will also win it, there is no doubt but if your one great season of 31 goals (not the record in the PL) is the claim to fame as best PL player ever, then what of the people who actually hold the record of most goals or someone like Shearer who beat that tally and consistently scored lots of goals every year. There is just no debate, there is no way whatsoever Ronaldo has been the best PL ever, talent has f**k all to do with it. If Messi played in the PL for one season and scored 50 goals it still does not make him the best PL player ever. don't you know.

Some PL stats. Suarez plays 3 seasons this Jan so only half the time Ronaldo has been in the PL. Not claiming at all Suarez is the best PL player ever but the stats do not back up the Ronaldo argument, because of one brilliant season bagging 31 goals we are to say yes he was the best PL player ever even though other players have scored more in 6 years and beat that season total

    Here's some PL stats
    Suarez 60 goals (pens 0) 16 assists 93 apps
    Ronaldo 86 goals (pens 11) 20 assists 207 apps

If we go lb for lb and look at quality rather than quantity.

This season from Suarez (so far) is the best any PL player (striker!) has ever played - take into account he missed 5 games too. #stats

Sisu...31 goals is the record, which he holds jointly with Shearer. Ronaldo joined us when he was 18, and played as an out and out right winger, for his first few seasons whilst he was still learning his craft. So comparing him to Suarez is ridiculous as Suarez joined you in his prime.

It took Ronaldo a few seasons to come good, which is to be expected from such a young player. There is no doubt though that once Ronaldo hit his prime, and Fergie gave him more of a license to get into the box he was a better player than any other player to have played in the PL.

He won the Ballon Do'r!!! Did Shearer? Did Henry? Has Suarez?

    I rest my case

If Suarez continues the form he's in for a few seasons and manages to bag himself a Ballon D'or, he will be the best PL ever. But there's no disagreeing with Ronaldo's talent in the PL. Ronaldo was a young player yet to mature when he joined United, when he finally did mature he showed what he could do. Saurez joined this league with a lot more experience.

How do you know he's in his prime? He keeps getting better and the age that always get thrown about he's still a couple of years off yet <ok>

Just seen Drogs post - I'd go with 'experience'. Doesn't mean he's hit his prime yet. He may have done, who knows till we look back in a few years.

Btw Shergar, the record is 34 goals, is not held by Ronaldo, and Suarez has a very good chance of beating it.

So is 31 PL goals the record?

If it is Suarez will surely beat that this season, that would be an incredible achievement considering he missed the start <yikes>

EDIT: Seen Drogs post - 34 goals. He'll beat that I reckon <ok>

I do too, but you never know with injuries etc. 17 games to go, he'll piss it if he plays in every one.

The odd thing is he never get's injured, he's like a machine. I've probably jinxed him now <doh>

Seriously though he only needs 14 goals (13 to equal), chuck a hat trick in there (as he's bound to get one against Norwich!) and a few braces, he should do it - put it this way I'd rather bet for than against <ok>
