Sorry lads, had to start work sometime. I have used Foucault's work on occasions but he hasnt been my main focus point. His ideas regarding discipline and a new set up of soldiers(that they could be made and not picked based on current skills) are true and cannot be denied, and now find themselves being used in most western societies however it's not really new is it? Anyone can come up with that, pretty basic, but some of his other texts were a very helpful source. I have found his work interesting, and almost always use his texts, but his work is mirrored by many.

My degree that I will finish this October is in Social Science, but In the course of my studies I completed modules is Sociology and Crime and Society, both of which featured Foucault's theories.
I'm sure that with Badger specialising in criminology, he will be able to enlighten us further in this subject..:emoticon-0113-sleep

Got a bad feeling on that one, I said he was destined to be a SCIENTOLOGIST, then blow me down enter stage right MR RAW, totally destroyed abadgersasshole, not been heard of since, swatting with his parole officer as I type, but ha will be back, bad smells always do, strange thing is, ALL the mags have gone, wonderful, nice one Mr RAW. next time home july 22 ish, I buy the beers, or spirits, whatever, cheap price to down a badger.

As I sit next to a Skunk is reading the thread I can only assume he is building up for the BIG reply. <ok>

Of course he could be worried about the flaws in Discipline and Punish, which was published in France in 1974, derive from the fact that its author clearly sees Guy Debord's The Society of the Spectacle, published in France in 1967, as competition, that is, as a work that must be discredited, rather than commented upon, supplemented or corrected. Given the nature of the French intellectual scene, perhaps this aspect of competition was inevitable. In any event, unlike Guy Debord, who always mentioned by name those he was criticizing or dismissing, Michel Foucault doesn't mention Debord by name in Discipline and Punish; instead, he attempts to appropriate and alter the meaning of what Debord called "the spectacle

**** ME GENTLY, and our site is seen as full of morons, nice one BIGGUS DICKUS CHRISSUS, ,,,,,,, COME ON YOU MAGS... **** WORK, WERE ON A ROLL HERE.

I've got to confess that I have never studied the works of Debord, so can't compare the two. However, I've got to agree with you regarding the French intellectual scene. They have, for a long time now, been given a far more prominent place in society in comparison to their British counterparts.
