****. Oh well might as well wipe the video recorder hard drive clean now and I was so looking forward to the suspense of this latest episode.

Some people just have to spoil things don't they.

The truth is it was purposefully designed to be more suitable for tablets, but they just rolled it out to PCs as well because why not. It's a bit annoying because I've noticed on some websites that when buying a new PC the only OS they make available is Win8. Unless you're using a tablet, Win7 is easily the best one.

I don't know what it is that Mark Gatiss/Stephen Moffat are on, but tonight's Sherlock Holmes was possibly the best episode of the lot, so far. In it, they are taking elements from the adventures of The Man with the Twisted Lip, Charles Augustus Milverton, and one or two nods towards other short stories from the Canon, but also there has been almost an element of The Beatles career in how the whole series of episodes have increasingly been moving towards the surreal. It culminated in the false ending, and just to throw everyone off balance, as the credits ended, Moriarty appears, to ask Miss me..? It was like the vinyl edition of the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, where the run out groove shouts... shall I never.. go..?

Sherlock has been quietly moving away from his Conan-Doyle original, since episode one, but this edition was what a writer can really do with the blueprint if he/she has enough imagination. I have always preferred quality over quantity, and Sherlock has delivered the quality in spades. The richness of the episodes, and their inspiration from and nods towards their origin is nothing short of superb. I'll wait.

With that kind of quality, they're worth the wait.

Actually Windows 8, in it's 8.1 guise is very good indeed, whether on tablet or PC. You'll get used to it. Either do that or find a Windows XP Pro disc and go back to the best OS they ever wrote. And don't worry about support after April of this year, it won't matter a jot for the private user.

Well, you're not going to ring Microsoft are you..? :)

Win8 is better than Win7 in its V8.1 edition. Posibly because 8.1 is slightly closer to Win7 than Win8.

Why do I make the distinction..? Well because if we were talking about Linux, we'd be on version 8.55 or even 9 by now, and would have solved the grievances people might have had towards the previous version on a monthly basis, only to create new ones. Basically, all one has to do with Win8 is make the adjustment from what one is used to and stick with it for the time being. With Windows you don't have to change your habits for a few years, that's all.

An App is an Application, like Word or Excel. Blame Apple. They started this App business. Note the fact that App means Application, but also Apple.

It's like Directories suddenly became Folders. You know what Folders are now. All you are required to do is adjust. Annoying, I know.

I'll echo that. Holmes has always been the method of the story, not his cheap imitation called Poirot. You watch that video, StG.

Interesting that Apple weren't able to trademark that.

I bet it wasn't for trying.

I read a bit about Samsung and Apple and their fight for supremacy, the other day. Did you know that Samsung provide chips and technology that goes into every edition of iPhone..? Every time Apple have sued Samsung, they've done it with fingers crossed behind their backs, because Samsung could just say... that's it, no more product. But Apple's payment to Samsung, for their hardware is billions in Samsung's account, so they don't do it. Samsung have Apple by the short and curlies.

Believe me, AL, you gave nothing away. I could have said that Sherlock shoots Milverton [sorry, Magnusson]. It means nothing in the end. Watch the video Pepys and be entertained.

That's it, I'm joining the Secret Service: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25703725

The only reason I haven't fancied taking the ol' Viffer above 135mph is the fact that Mr Plod might see me do it. :)
