Personally, I think that Joey has been our player of the season to date (vying with Charlie for that honour). He has had one or two "red mist" moments so far but I'm hoping he's older and wiser now. We wouldn't be where we are without his performances to date.

That would be a top 4 team, currently Newcastle, Hull and Southampton all occupy the top 10 and I'm sure any of those would happily have a player of his ability!

He has had a great season so far. I am delighted with the commitment he has shown. Who are we getting the best value from? JB or Cesar?

Really, please let us know why nobody has even tried to put a bid in for him then?

No queue at our front door that I can see.....

FYI..I;m massively anti-Barton BUT accept that he has been good for us this season and thank him for his work. He's found his level & the day he gets into that Southampton side will be a sad day for the development of English football...IMO

You of course my friend, are completely entitled to an opposite opinion. <ok>

The only teams that will pay the same wages are the top 6 and they have better, the wages he gets is a different story though, that is why no one will buy him. Talent wise and commitment on the field he is a class player, off the field he has certainly been a complete tool over the years, he does seem to have calmed down as a person now but there is always that risk of him going back to his old ways. I personally can't stand Floyd Mayweather as a person but have to admit he is a class boxer(I'm not saying Barton is the football version), but like Barton or not our team on the pitch and currently off it are much better with him here!

I'll agree we do appear to be better with him on the pitch, although without him we scored 3 goals in a single game. Coincidence ? probably....Fact ? Definately...

No t completely convinced we need him but he is a usefull tool (very apt) to have in our locker.

Talent wise he is no-where near a Prem player IMHO and if wges are the issue, I'd suggest that playing for a Champions League team would match the annual income.

Fact is, he just isnt as good as he believes he is. Like I said, no-one is asking for him..wages or not!

Good NPC player and maybe bottom end of the Prem ?

I agree he isn't as good as he thinks, however I remember the Newcastle fans weren't happy he was going as he had been a big player for them, he has been our top player this season with Austin and if he isn't a prem player then we would need to drop the whole squad if we go up and start from scratch. Marseille wanted him but wouldn't go near his wages, it's easy to say it should be about the football but would anyone here take a 40-60% pay cut for a better job? I doubt it very much, football is a short career and I doubt Barton will get work as a pundit or manager when he retires!

I reckon he may make the pundit thing a bit more interesting. Be a draw card for the first few games until people worked out he has no idea and they bin him !!
With the wages, mmm not so much. if he could get into a CL team then he'd surely be getting more just based on appearances.
But its all opinions mate & yours are just a valid as mine. <ok>

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Joey Barton. But I will say this about him. At the 'Open Day' at the beginning of the season, I managed to have a brief chat with him.

'' How do you feel about being back here?'' I asked.

'' Alright mate, I just want to get this club back to where it deserves to be. That's my job. '' He replied.

'' I'm here and this is it for me, I'll do my best.''

Now there is nothing really too significant about that, until you realise that no other player on that day said anything.
They just went through the motions signing autographs and having the token picture taken.
Barton took the time to engage the fans, have pictures taken holding fans baby's and discussing his personal life and his own baby Cassius as well as discussing London compared to Liverpool among other things.

None of the other players did this.

Every single one of the other QPR players just went through the motions and you got the feeling that they couldn't wait to be out of there.

Fair play to him (& you Nines) at least he made an effort, which as i keep saying about TF and others, is really all we can ask of our players and team.

Not sure I would have taken the time personally to speak to him, but thats probably a fault on my side rather than Bartons. <ok>

He's a 100% Pro Queens, and went up in my estimations compared to a lot of our players who just went through the motions. He made an effort with my girls. It stuck in their memory when he tried to tell them about The Beatles and the link to where he came from. Not one other player tried to engage with the fans that day.

Then if he was sincere mate, credit to him for making the effort
Im afraid its going to take a lot to make me like the bloke, but stuff like that is a great start.

Intrestingly, I assume you read Warnocks book? He says very much the same thing about Diouf & why he signed him. Im not sure how much of it I believe as the book was rubbish (IMHO) but he does make the point that the person you see on the field bears very little resemblance to the man.

like ive said previously. Im good friends (or was) with the Rowlands family" and when i read some of the postss on here regarding Martin, It makes me seethe sometimes to know first hand how wrong they are about the man himself.
i played footy with him & his brother (adam) years ago and he was one of the most humble & respectfull people you could ever meet, despite playing for Brentford at the time. It would have been easy for him to give it "Billy big Bo**ox" but he never did.
Anyway, thats another story for another day

I'm with you on this Peter, I don't condone any of his past behavior but he is one of our outstanding performers so far this season, some of the comments from the 'fans' on here you would think he had done each one of them a personal injustice.
