the nbox looks interesting. saw the Asus SFF PCs (nettops) dry up a while back and thought they were a dead market.

Yes, I think Novatech realise that the full blown PC is a diminishing market, especially when one can manufacture a tiny version that has enough of that horsepower you like, for most people. Gamers, and specialists will always want something that can be expanded, upgraded, developed, etc.., but the sales numbers simply aren't there for big computers, anymore. Sales of tablets, phones and smart appliances have shown that the average person doesn't necessarily want something that is hugely versatile, but something that fits the bill.

The first big manufacturer to pursue this tiny computer market was Apple. This was still in an era when CDs and DVDs were mainstay, yet people began to buy the thing. It wasn't for people with established collections of software, and being Apple, they didn't make it easy for those people to be accommodated unless they bought the expensive external kit of DVD writers, etc. Plus, it simply wasn't very good.

So Novatech are following a trend for the PC. The NBox is easily powerful enough for many people, is about half the price of anything Apple make with comparable power, and it turns the TV into a full blown computer. It has high definition graphics, masses of storage, Windows 8.1, and you can operate your computer from the comfort of your armchair. All in one of the neatest packages I've seen.

And because it is essentially still a PC, it uses standard parts. which means I could fix it should it ever go wrong.

Look at the raspberry pi (bout £25)or minix neo7 (bout £80), these little boxes can turn any TV into something much more than a smart TV, bit geeky but great if your into playing with tech.

Yep, I know about them too. They are excellent, if a bit geeky, and it's the fact that that they are that makes them a niche product. What the mass audience want is something that anyone can operate. The requirements I had given to me were of a package that combined a huge TV with a full blown computer that could be operated just as a TV or as a computer or both, from the armchair, with wireless keyboard/mouse or TV remote control.

You might say, why not operate the thing from a tablet computer..? Well, the guy is quite clumsy, and is very likely to get up and step on the controller. Better to ruin a £20 keyboard or mouse than a £80-200 tablet. Besides, he knows how to use a keyboard and mouse, so the learning element is minimised.

Sassuolo 3-2 AC Milan on BT Sport at current.

    Milan led 0-2, before a 25-minute hat-trick from Berardi.

I have had my new computer for a month and all I can say is that windows 8 is absolutely the worst operating system I have ever used.

It is absolute crap, I have had more harmful cyber attacks in a the last month than in four years with my last computer.

I am on the point of stopping all the trading and banking I do on the computer as I have no faith in the system.

Is anybody else using this **** OS?

Next year I think. Already recomissioned by the BBC and the writers have drafted the scripts I think. The problem always seems to be fitting in filming for Cumberbatch and Freeman. Of course, there aren't any more Hobbit films to film so it shouldn't be too long.

Really liked this series. I thought the last episode was a bit up and down, and a little anti climax with him [nsfw]shooting Magnussen.[/nsfw] But, it is a quality programme.
