Clearly you did BA(Hons) Journalism then! But what years? Your post seems slightly confused in terms of my recollection and similarly as Leon suggests. Also, to be fair, the Imps were always pretty good with our students - especially when the late Keith Alexander was manager/coach. (A first class fellow RIP). EDIT: A PM conversation might be useful here?
Plastic Glory Hunting Bandwaggoner! With all due respect CG, you say its full of posh ****ers, then suggest you're not too keen on riff raff there either, implying you live there too. I never really thought of you as posh, can that be true? I had you down as the more earthy local type.
I agree. At what point do they become a rival? If we have a couple of relegations and them a couple of promotions will we look at them differently? It's very reminiscent of the Hellas and Chievo situation in Verona. One the big city club, the other from a local village and they eventually swapped places in the league ladder. It wasnt long before the local youth started supporting the smaller team. It really could happen here....
Verona is approx the same size as Hull, and Chievo is about the same size as Ferriby (although less wealthy). Could imagine a time when City might be in Lg 1 and Ferriby are in the Prem (as happened with Verona and Chievo only a few years back)?
I don't believe NFU will move out of Ferriby, they only need to spend £50k to meet Conference requirements.
I can confirm that the North Ferriby players were indeed refused entrance to the bar area/ players lounge after the game. Pathetic behaviour from Lincoln there. I'm lead to believe that if the teams meet again next season at Church Road the Lincoln players will of course be allowed in the Ferriby clubhouse and will be provided with nose bag and a warm welcome. Regardless of the score. Big Les and his club obviously have more class than the no mark Lincoln chairman.
Because they'd be a supporter of a big club supporting a smaller, lesser-known local club. Would be possibly the highlight of the NFU players careers seeing 20,000 people behind them? Man Utd or Liverpool couldn't give a flying toss where their supporters come from!
I can see what you're trying to say but there is a massive difference. My son has been at Ferriby since he was 6. Every year he gets a new kit and tracksuit. He trains with his team once a week and every two weeks he gets coached by the first team keeper, Adam Nicklin who as it goes is a top lad. I don't think De Gea or Mignolet do that for their clubs youth teams. These boys are local semi pro players who are doing really well. They support the many, many youth teams at Ferriby and always have time for the young lads in the clubhouse after their games. It's a successful example of what can happen when grass roots football gets it right. I don't see how going to the odd game( and Wembley should they get there) can be seen as the same as supporting Man Utd or Liverpool as well as City? The fact a team, who are essentially from Hull, is punching well above its weight should be celebrated and not seen as some sort of threat. That's my opinion anyway.
If they are your local team then you supporting City is like supporting Man Utd That's precisely what Hellas fans thought about Chievo. A few years later the village team were playing in europe as the big city team were in the 3rd tier.
Might be my fault but I was asking a serious question - if they continue their meteoric rise then surely there must come a time when they're actually a rival / threat to Hull City. I wanted to know when we think that might be. Is it as soon as they reach the Conference or does it depend on us getting relegated as well? Im sure a time will come when we play them in the cup - it's almost inevitable - and when that time comes will we still view them as a cute, good for them story or do we wanna ****ing stuff them? As I keep saying, you might think this will never happen but the Verona parallells really are there.
Ferriby have gone just about as far as they can Bummers. Them making The Conference proper would be stretching them as a club to the max. Let's not get carried away with talk of league football, it's highly, highly unlikely. There's also more chance of Elvis playing in goal for City than Ferriby playing in Europe. Have you never been to the ground?
Yeah, my old next door neighbour used to be captain of NFU and I saw them several times. They could move stadiums. Chievo STILL get approximately 2000 home fans attending their games now. The attendances are almost entirely made up if away fans. I don't buy this it won't happen claim to be honest. If you'd said 5 years ago they'd win 0-4 at Lincoln City people would've laughed their tits off.
They're a little bit like Hoffenheim in Germany. That's pretty much a village with a huge stadium outside it. I'm quite surprised nobody has come in for Billy Heath yet.
