To be honest i'm not sure what I was saying, more of a reflection. I guess I'm saying i expected us to be in a dog fight this season as were the previous two seasons; it is going to be tight, and I don't think Hughton is always unlucky, he wasn't against WBA away or the Hammers at home. In response to chippie, of the games I've mentioned we seldom went all out for a win I really don't believe that, nor was it my interpretation Liverpool were crowded in our half and we got break away chances, Utd and City we got 10 behind the ball as did hughton, There were more similarities than differences, I think there is a difference at home, but lambert was slagged off when we didn't beat Fulham, Wigan and so on. There are less differences as time goes on between the two in my opinion, which may sound odd, but Hughton is changing the game plan more frequently, how well it comes off is another matter
I think it maybe that PL was tactically astute enough to give us a chance of winning away. If he got it wrong (as he did on many occasions) he not only changed it around but did it quickly some times. CH does not seem able to do these things. I also think as said above it was in his mentality the "don't get beat" so players got in the oppositions faces, I do wonder ( but can't be parsed to look it up now) if we got more of the ball against the top sides with passive CH or aggressive PL? Because at least the latter we get it back a bit quicker! Bah!
Funny really, when PL kept changing the team people complained he tinkered too much. Now people want CH to change it every match.
I think there's a happy medium. CH would play the same side every week if injuries didn't prevent him doing so, PL would mix things up when it was hard to immediately see the logic. I'd like it if CH had his preferred formation and style (so the players knew how to play the way he wanted), but rotated some of the personnel to best suit the opposition.
I agree You want a stable side but the ability to rotate a bit to keep it fresh. Just highlighting how peoples wants seem to change to suit.
Lambert went nearly 3 years without losing 2 in a row Hughton went nearly half a season without winning 1 game and sadly he hasn`t improved much since .
Well i just did nearly a full season in Lg1 a full season in the Champs and a full season in the Prem but hopefully Mr Hughton doesn`t get the chance to try in the Championship and Lg1 .
I never once complained that he tinkered too much. It showed flexibility, open-mindedness, and a willingness to try different things.
