minutes played and assists undeniable. the rest is a bit hazy. you could also have shots on target and from my memory he'd score highly without having been likely to score.
Sorry to butt in, that comment was by someone that is an expert on the subject judging by the content of your posts on this thread, I don't deny that you are entitled to your opinion, but a lot of what I have just read appears to be just arguing against anyone elses view without a great deal of thought or an actual appreciation of what went on yesterday, I agree with some of it but there is a lot I could pick an argument with, but that would only make it more tedious than it has already become.
Yes, I agree, but what I don't understand is why people still don't think he played well yesterday when he undoubtedly did. It is the remembering of his previous that I believe, hazes peoples view when he dos some good stuff.
I believe I started by agreeing with someone who had an unpopular opinion and subsequently defended my view. I don't think it's fair to say i've been arguing against anyone. You could say it either way though as there's plenty of people shouted down for disagreeing on saintsweb as well. I characterised it as saintsweb posting because it is characteristic of the majority there.
i don't understand people thinking that what they saw is undoubted truth. I can accept that I might have overlooked some good play from him though I believe it unlikely. You believe absolutely that his overall contribution was absolutely good. I'm not going to quote star wars.
hard to keep track over who i'm having a fair debate with with all the noise. it was hard enough for people to keep track of the difference between only two posters who didn't think gaston played well.
Only saw on MOTD...we obviously had most of the game and they were defending for a draw. Games like that you can win by miles or lose to a sucker punch. A draw would have been a travesty, but nearly happened....Boruc promised us those points back and he delivered. Agree about the offside rule as Long was right in front of Boruc and 'offside' but not deemed to be so under present interpretation. I believe we had a goal awarded under similar circumstances. It looks so wrong, but if you deem a player onside half way up the pitch if he doesn't receive the ball initially, you can't change the rule just because he is the goal area. We either accept the present situation or we go back to stopping the game every time someone is ahead of the game in the middle of the pitch. The old 'is he active, is he not' argument confused everybody. We were struggling to win a game that we dominated, so they sent on a game changer in Ramirez, it worked, we won...end of story really.
Yes. He came on to try and win us the game, or create something. he did that. He looked like he wanted to get on the ball and was always 'showing' for a team mate. He got caught in possession badly once and that was when he was stitched up by Davis or Lallana (I think Davis) when we had a break on but Davis went at a snail's pace and then eventually gave it to Ramirez when he was surrounded. His affect on the game was positive and he did very well. I'd call it good. I'd also say that he performed in the top 3 or 4 of our team.
given that three players played well on the day i'd agree with you. i'm sure you can guess from that which of 3 or four I place Gaston
If you think Long was offside when the cross came over I think you will find the ball was not passed forward but sideways and I'm not an expert but I think offside requires the pass to go forward.
Adam, Artur, Shaw. edit: forgot shaw instantly for some reason. picked fonte to cover up.. Lovren and Fonte both did fine but passing was off.
Interesting. Jose's first two passes were unbelievably bad. One nearly put us in the ****e and the other one did... and WBA nearly scored. I thought he had a good game too, but I would have though that those two indiscretions might have counted against him as a lost possession did with Gaston. Different rules for different players? I'm sure Gaston would be currently hanging from some wooden frame now, if he had hit that pass that Jose did across our back four straight to Anelka.
recalling luke, jose, and fonte i might have been overzealous in saying gaston would make top four. trying to remember what happened when fonte was just past the half way line with the ball in the second half now.
