With the exception of a couple of games, he has been consistently poor this season. So why does his name seem to be first on the squad sheet after Ruddy? I suspect a) because he tries hard b) because he might score a free kick and we need all the goals we can get since we don't create many chances in open play c) because Hughton hasn't the faintest idea how to utilise a squad.
I thought he had a poor game yesterday and needed subbing around 60 minutes -and then he ups his game and hits the post. Overall though he lost the ball more times than kept and on breakaways has a habit of knocking it back to Whittaker and the whole counter breaks down at the half way line. When he's good he's OK (if becoming a little bit too predictable now) when he's bad he's so frustrating. I abhor his going to ground tactic and his whining at refs. Get the **** on with it as they say in Scotland.
"Consistently poor"? Yes, by his own standards. But that doesn't mean he isn't still the best option for right midfield when he is fit. IMO he plays better when Russ is at RB, so I would rather CH didn't utilise his squad quite as much as he does.
I agree he plays better with Martin. They seem to have a good understanding. In general, though, he has been so poor this season. He's a bit of a one-trick pony. Has he been found out?
Yes he has not had his best season, not sure how much the injury has effected him recently. But who do you seriously expect CH to pick instead? Wlessed with loads of options.e have had a lot of injuries in that area so are not b
Well, maybe we could try a different formation altogether and not be so dependent on wing play. Or maybe, as lots of people have said, we could give up on inverted wingers and then Redmond could play there and Snodgrass could have time to sort his head out. Perhaps? You know me, I'm not a master tactician. No sarcastic responses, please.
He was brilliant last season and has been good this season. He does more defending than Whittaker (Love a Snodgrass sliding tackle) as well as doing his attacking for him so cut him some slack. We know he is capable of better so let's hope he gets back to where he was last season. He's miles better than Redmond anyhow, and we do NEED a player on the pitch to take free kicks and corners, Redmond's deliveries are awful. Maybe once Bennett and Pilks are back things will get better.
Snodgrass of late seems to be all bull and no finesse, thats fine in DM with Johnson, but thats not what we need out wide, having and giving your heart is one thing and commendable but not whats required in that position. Why does it take CH so long to make a change when its obvious things arent working? Im not wanting to single out RS but its pretty obvious he hasnt really been up to scratch this season, and i would say he probably kept us up last year with some of his goals which this year have been few and far between, i would be happy with just some quality passing but if there isnt anyone to pass to in a GOOD position that makes his job even harder. The midfield needs a series rethink because thats where the problem lies...
I disagree. 1) Snodgrass was not dreadful, you should at least appreciate the defending he does. We need it with 2 strikers. 2) What did Redmond do of note? And I extend this question to what he's done all season in addition to this game apart from waste balls 3) When Redmond came on late, we started to go for it a bit more as a team and Everton were content with 2-0 and dropped back allowing us to come at them and give the illusion that we played better directly because of him. 4) There is nobody else we can currently play in stead of Snodgrass 5) At his best Snodgrass is unplayable
1) Yes, he does defend. And he works hard. Those things are totally to his credit. 2) He put a very good cross in soon after coming on. I'm not a great Redmond fan, and I doubt if he can ever get the mental nous to match his obvious physical skills, but he did more in 10 minutes yesterday than Snodgrass did in the entire game. 3) Perhaps true. But then I've always felt Redmond would be best as a substitute late in the game when his speed and trickery would be most effective. 4) Not if we keep the same system. But we can change the system. There is no alternative! Yes there is, but Hughton doesn't have the imagination or adaptability to try. 5) No. He's a good, honest player. But unplayable? Defenders know exactly what he is going to do. He needs to get some more strings to his bow. And he needs a spell out of the team to make him think about how he can improve himself as a player.
I'd like to see Snodgrass played in the CAM role to behonest. I think he is too easy to figure out on the wing because he'll generally just cut inside. If he plays in the middle he gets more options and I think it'd be a better position to utilise his talents. He does have good feet, he can pass but being out on the wing with no support from midfield and only an over lap or cutting inside to choose from has seemed to blunt his effectiveness. If the squad was fully fit I'd have Pilks on the left, Redmond on the right and Snodgrass through the middle.
Redmond is defiantly better on the right as it allows him to get tot the by-line and cut it back low across the box. several times yesterday whits played a teasing box in behind the full back that shoddy couldn't reach but redmond probably would have. Yesterday would have been a good day to rest Snoddy as Garrido is pretty good on a dead ball. lets hope to see Redmond on the right and Josh on the left against Fulham.
Sorry Bath, O/T and you're not the only one by a long chalk, but you're at uni so I would have thought you would have noticed! A number of people spell defiantly when they mean definitely and I really don't understand why, it's NOT a typo, it's a different word entirely!
Yeah I'm aware i'm very bad at that, i've just got it stuck in my head so when I'm typing a quick response its my most common mistake.
That one's an autocorrect problem, but it is becoming very apt. Any other spelling mistakes? Come on, kick a man whilst he's down.
Interesting, I stood a few feet from the wing that Snodgrass was essentially defending in the first half and he first touch was ****e, he didn't track back frequently enough, was out of position, made minimal movement, there were several times we tried to pass our way out and he wasn't quick enough. the ball was played up to hooper - snodgrass should have been an outlet, but nowhere to be seen Second half our attacking left wing I got to see Redmond close up for the first time in terms of looking across the pitch and I was really really impressed with his first touch When Redmond came on he cut inside and went outside his player, beat him 4/5 and put decent crosses in with both feet At the time I remember thinking he can't cross with his left foot, but that boy has been practising This is how I saw it on the day, I'm not talking about the better player, but having said that Redmond is improving and I can see him being a far better player than Snodgrass
