There was a passage in the first half (I think) where we were playing triangles with our defenders and keeper - had we had Gazzaniga in goal, our defenders wouldn't have felt composed to keep passing it back to him and would probably have ended up with giving the ball away in a dangerous position. There is also no way he would have saved the shot which Boruc did at the end.

He would have pushed it onto Jos Hooiveld's leg and in.

i'm not the alone then. better set pieces from Gaston and of course the assist was great, his workrate off the ball was improved, but when he's on the ball i think he still looks like just losing it before he even tries anything clever more often than not.

Adam has gone from strength to strength. Pace and finishing much improved.

Really? Are you sure you're not doing the thing of just noticing the bits that confirm your suspicion. I don't mean that critically as such, it's easy to do, but today you must have been very clouded not to see the positive difference he made to our attacking threat.

I'll put it another way. Without Gaston Ramirez, we'd have walked away with 1 point today, not 3.

Well you just seem to have it in for Ramirez. His pass was superb and looked fairly threatening throughout when he came on. Saints certainly looked more potent when he came on.

We've got to understand that Gaston will lose the ball every now and then. We all cry out for some cutting edge and better final 3rd movement but we have to realise that comes with the risk that you could get disposed.

I'd much rather Gaston had a little run from deep and tried to get things going than stopping at the edge of the box passing it around sideways until one of Clyne/Shaw arrives to (last game at least) smack their cross into a defender.

I thought he was alright. He doesn't play like a 12m player, but he's good to bring on if you need a goal as he'll actually take people on and try and do something. I don't trust him to defend though, so I'd be a bit worried about him starting, unless he plays as an out-and-out striker. It would be best for his career though to go somewhere where he'll play in the Europa League and get regular football. I don't think he'll play much in the Champions League as the last two years must have dented his potential.

well normally I would say i couldn't be sure that i knew every time gaston touched the ball because he's not of remarkably different build to many of our other players but today he had such a ridiculous hair-do i doubt it.

my main impression of our attacking threat today was of the goal and jay rod's solo run he scuffed wide. the rest was a lot of getting chased down just past the half way line, gaston running two players over to luke shaw and making a short pass to luke with three players converging on him (a telfer special). then Guly coming on and me filled with dread because as much as I like guly, he's sometimes like having a player completely missing when we're on the back foot and that with gaston losing the ball felt like squeaky bum time.

He was the key difference between 1 point and 3 today, yet people are still picking on the 1 or 2 times he lost possession (guess what, Adam did too!) Amazing.

Well it's true. He produced a sensational assist and yet he was "very poor". Without him we would have drawn.

"Ahead of kick-off, Adam Lallana had been dispossessed 48 times this campaign, more than any other player in the Premier League." From the beeb.

he tends to take the ball past players about three times, probing before he's disposessed though. gaston tends to receive it in midfield, facing back to goal or sideways and get run off it without doing anything.
