Dont really disagree... I think fans feel an attachment to him which in recent years has only been matched by the attachment to ledley and possibly martin jol

He's not the best striker we've ever had but will always score goals. He had his lean periods but always recovered. He will be well worth his place in the Spurs hall of fame.

Don't it always seem to go, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. I'm sure we will miss him.

  3. Hm. I'll reserve judgement on that one, deedub.

Yes, if Sherwoodie is determined to replace Defoe with Kane, we'll miss Defoe; but we'll not miss him in absolute terms, only comparatively.

If, on the other hand, we get in a striker like Lukaku or Sturridge, no, we won't miss Defoe.

Turns out that Jason Puncheon has set himself up for a fair bit of stick after today's game.
Not only did he take one of the worst penalties that I've ever seen, but he took the piss out of one of his fellow professionals for missing one, via Twitter:

Biggest concern today was that they've had a whole week on the training field together and they looked like strangers. Having said that Pullis has impressed me the way he has organised that rabble, they gave both Citeh and us a run for our money. After Woy ****s up at the WC, I'd like to see him get the England job. It needs someone like him to put the prima donna players in their place.

  6. Nah! I reckon Big Sam will be rewarded with the job, after he gets the boot from WHU.

You could be right, the timing might be better, but Pullis would make a far better England manager.

Don't really agree with that HIAG.

Highest European goal scorer in our history, 5th highest scorer in our history, 2nd highest scorer for Spurs in Premier League history, 14th highest in Premier League history... That's not really a Tom, Dick or Harry. Lets not forget that about half of Defoe's career with us (probably over half in truth), he's often been the 2nd or 3rd choice striker. There are many first choice strikers that don't have the goal scoring ratio Defoe has.

I think he's fully deserving of a position in our hall of fame/ legends club.

As for the match, it was a game of two halves.

1st was woeful, no one done any good. We were second to every second ball and I'm amazed Palace didn't go in front. The penalty was award down Paxton end so I couldn't tell properly if it was or wasn't a pen, it looked from where I was sitting that there was a push in the back of the Palace player but I couldn't be sure.

2nd half was a completely different Spurs, dominated possession, Moussa and Nabil took control of the centre of the field and we upped the tempo. Great finish from Eriksen and delighted for Defoe.

3 points in the bag. Lovely jubly.

I didn't see the game, but interesting to see Sherwood saying afterwards that he had expected Palace to sit back - does that make any sense of why the first half was such a shambles?

    Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis:
"We played so well first half that the game should have been over at half-time.
The first goal was a disappointing one to concede and there was an element of offside to Jermain Defoe's."

Only an "element" ?? Was Defoe on drugs or summat ?? :D

It could make sense but its disappointing that it seemed to take a dressing-down at half time to sort it out. Can't the coaching staff yell at the players on the sidelines and get the messages across? As Sherwood touched on in his post-match comments though, it was encouraging that we were so much better in the second half. There is clearly a decent Spurs team in there that is capable of playing good football and wining matches while doing so. For me, the 3 points is enough to forgive Sherwood for a tactical/setup mistake that he then apparently rectified and helped us to win the match. We have to hope that a youngish coach still learning his trade will learn from this mistake and that he won't take so long to sort it out in the future if/when the opposition don't set up as he expects them to.

Yeah, perhaps I should have given her the credit but I wasn't trying to be plageristic, the line just fitted so well. Many don't appreciate how good JD is.

Thank the Lord that games over and we have got three points when,to be fair,I wouldn't have been surprised if Palace had got them!
We should have been at least 2 goals down at half time,we were awful.
I sometimes wonder who those people are wearing those white shirts......
I can't see any Spurs player coming out with much credit.
Our 2 center forwards (at the start) go together like sugar and mustard.
I wonder what will happen when we finally come together?...I hope!

    How I originally misread it.

How I see it as well. One of his sainted predecessor's strengths was getting the team straightened up and flying right when he had a week of practice. You are afraid that after the Arsenal game Sherwood said, same thing next week, let's go grab a pint. They certainly played like it. Really it's been two lackadaisical performances in a row, with the different outcomes entirely explicable by taken and untaken chances.

However, after a multigoal clean sheet win, and 4/4 in the PL for Sherwood, you can't complain too much. Not that I haven't given it a good effort. Sherwood really is the anti-AVB, in addition to being Harry Jr. Now we've got Tim's boys who apparently will play every game, as opposed to the chop and change approach we had before.

So many poor performances today it's hard to name just a few. I guess Walker and Soldado were hurt. I'd been one of Soldado's defenders, because he'd been playing well except for scoring. Not today or last week. Time to try Lamela or Holtby in a 4-4-1-1, I'd say. Dembele, who is probably our best player against the best teams, may have been our worst against the worst.

  17. But all that demonstrates is just how crap we've been at finding and/or keeping decent strikers.

Reading some of Sherwood's comments today it would appear that a 4-4-1-1 is definitely something he is considering.

'We have Adebayor, Soldado, Erik Lamela will play off the front, that will be his best position, Nacer Chadli could also do that and I think they have goals in them.

Utter **** for the majority of that game. Thank **** for that 20-25 minutes of good play and Palace's generosity in not doing anything decent with their attacks, otherwise we could've been buried in that game.

Soldado and Adebayor were acting like they were in their own little boys club, both slacked and only really looked to look to pass to each other when they'd bothered to get into some space. Soldado epitomised it though when he lost the ball in the middle of the pitch with Lennon and Dembele(I think) having run beyond him. He wasn't even bothered enough to make it look like he was tracking back and instead broke from his light jog into a walk with the ball barely 5 meters away from him at a Palace player's feet. I've liked Soldado's attitude and spirit up until now but that moment had me furious. You should've seen me, I've not been that angry at a game since we lost the FA Cup semis to Portsmouth <grr>

I've still yet to see Sherwood bringing any organisation to proceedings but the whole team was such a farce in the first half that I find it hard to blame him. It certainly wasn't tactics, the midfield and defence were struggling to pass the ball and the forwards were intent on dicking around. On tactics though, Eriksen needs to realise that having the license to roam from the wing is not the same as "**** it, stand around with Ade and Soldado for half an hour and let Rose deal with their right flank".

On the plus side, it was great to see Defoe come on and score <ok> Bentaleb and Lennon also played pretty well, especially when you take into account the general standard the rest of our players set.

Edit: Oh and credit to the Palace fans, they were great. Even though our support has been declining for awhile that was an especially bad showing from our fans.
