I think he feels he has unfinished business with the PL and also unfinished business with West Ham. If truth be known, he has never really felt truly at home at QPR and he is always a vulnerable guy when approached by another job offer, more so when it comes from a club dear to his heart. At one point not so long ago, I was genuinely ITK at what was going on in Redknapp's life. In those days, he would have walked from Sandbanks to Upton Park every day. I suspect that is still the case, but can't be certain because my contact passéd away.
I know the initial excitement of premier league football would be a spark and he has never been happy about his exit from West Ham so I guess the more you think from the heart, you can understand why Redknapp could leave. My initial response was thinking of a football view as he's better placed to have another crack at something exciting with QPR, once promoted as right now it looks on hold until he can build a Redknapp team. When I look at QPR, it looks like a squad assembled with experience to do a job, but there's no real style overall and they are crawling to promotion. Maybe Redknapp needs that club like Portsmouth or West Ham, to bring that excitement, I guess I won't fully know what he's thinking but if you know certain things about Arry then I agree he probably hasn't changed and could just be trying to show respect to QPR until a better job for him arrives.
You've summed it all up pretty well. I will say though, I do think he has some sense of loyalty to QPR, because I know it shook him rigid that he wasn't swamped with job offers after he left us. I don't know too much about the Ukraine offer, although Harry has said he had one foot on the plane to go over there and that is his story and he still sticks by it. Still think he would walk to West Ham given half a chance.
I can't see why Redknapp or Defoe have any positive feelings about West Ham and any desire to sign for the club again with the way their fans treated them. If it was me I'd tell them to go **** themselves and thank their fans that I wanted nothing to do with them.
So really what Redknapp needs to do is persuade this Tony Fernandes dude to flog QPR and buy the Spam. He could kill a few birds with a single stone if he could do that.
Last game (bar injury) Dnipro...that could be an emotional night! It is too good to turn down, nobody is giving him a 4yr deal in the Premier League. Wish him well.
Personally I'd like to see Lamela given a role up top in a 4-4-2 coming on as a sub in the way Chadli has been (and been just as innefective) I'd also like to see CE behind Ade in the VDV role, with Lennon and Andros on the wings.
We definitely need to sign at least one striker now, if not two. Not really sure what the point in loaning Defoe for a few weeks is, though.
...if Lamela is still here!, Juve offering 30m plus Vucinic allegedly...wouldn't surprise if Levy is mulling that one.
I'd be more tempted if it was for Giovinco, even if it was a bit less money. Making a quick profit on Lamela would be pretty decent business though, anyhow,
Mate, put your tin hat on, I said the same yesterday, and apparently its not necessary, anyone else in the squad can fill in that easy-peasy position! every name was mentioned except Gomes I think!
Don't exaggerate! But I will point out that the only team to try playing without a striker at the European Championships won the thing. They only had Torres, Llorente, Negredo and Soldado to choose from, yet they still preferred Fabregas. The importance of strikers is one of the 'facts' people know about football but there is precious little evidence that most of the players who play there are any better at scoring goals than any other player would be given the opportunity. Obviously that is not true of the very best where players like Greaves seemed to be able to score goals in bucketloads and not do much else.
In the case of Chadli VS Ade I would say you were 100% wrong Lamela/Andros/CE VS Soldado and Defoe on the other hand...
Strikers do more than just score goals though PS, unless they're Darren Bent. We don't have the creativity in midfield that Spain do either, but even they came undone against Brazil in the summer, who did use strikers. One of them was utterly mediocre, too. please log in to view this image
If you are talking about me i think you'll find i said i thought we could do 2.5 months without spending the money in january and then getting one in the summer
I tend to agree that we don't have enough creativity which is one of the reasons that I don't want strikers like Fletcher and Long (sorry SoS) anywhere near the club because they can only be played in a 442 which means dropping someone like Eriksen or playing him wide. I get that you want your most skilful player up front so the best strikers can usually play in a deeper role too but the opposite is likely to be true too as far as I can see. I think we could add a lot of value by turning players like Eriksen and Holtby into 'strikers' - they can do almost anything that defoe can do plus a whole lot more.
Sherwood has said today that Lamela is going nowhere and he's in his plans. Interesting to hear that confirmed on BBC radio today, as yesterday I read a rumour that Sherwood wants to loan Holtby out so he can use Lamela. It looks like that rumour might have some truth in it after all.
