http://metro.co.uk/2014/01/09/jerma...efore-being-loaned-back-to-tottenham-4255656/ OK I was wrong , but he's not joining them until 28th Feb . No point I suppose as they won't be playing .....
I'd have thought Defoe had a couple more years of Premiership football left in him. All seems very strange.
Maybe but he's not getting in the spurs team right now. Would you rather scratch around for a few sub appearances in the premier league (or play for less money at a smaller club), or move for megabucks to the MLS where he is one of the biggest stars in the league?
Bradley deal is now done, apparently. https://mobile.twitter.com/DougMacESPN/statuses/421041871859625984?screen_name=DougMacESPN
I think Canada may have a decent footballing side within the next ten years, everyones kids play football now. It is becoming really popular and large ethnic minorities have certainly fuelled the interest.
Agreed. Bradley's an in-prime player who was one of Roma's best performers last year. That's a massive get. And yeah, TFC's ownership has a tonne of money. The other thing to remember is that the money involved in European football (save for a handful of world-class players) isn't exactly massive in the context of other professional sports. Here are the slightly outdated salary figures for the Toronto Raptors, owned by the same conglomerate. Landry Fields' $6.25m a year is mid-level stuff, and translates to about 73k p/w. He barely plays. In a recent trade they took back two players making roughly the same amount that they didn't even want to make the deal work under the salary cap. So 75k a week for someone in Defoe who'll move the needle on revenues is nothing in the grand scheme.
Burnley confirm the signing of Ashley Barnes from Brighton on a three-and-a-half year deal. Ings on his way?
I always find that strange. Why not do the deal and then announce it when complete. I wonder if they are not confident that he will sign and so announcing this appeases fans???
