Apparently West Ham are set to sack Allardyce, and then go after Billy Davies as his replacement. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...move-for-Nottingham-Forests-Billy-Davies.html 2 things to this: 1) What do we think that does to West Ham's chances of staying up? 2) What will be the effect on Hobbs' position, no guarantees the new manager at Forest will want him so our bidding war could be over before it starts. Or we could add West Ham to the list if BD wants to replace his L1 loanee defender with Hobbs.
I'd say it's the other way. Forest are 7 points off the top 2 whilst West Ham are only 3 points off safety (goal difference puts Cardiff in the drop zone if WH win to get level on points). With West Ham's approach to finance he's more likely to be able to rescue them than to drag Forest up into the top 2. If he doens't get Forest to top 2 it's only a 1 in 4 chance of doing it in the playoffs. If Forest are going to lose Hobbs as well he might think they've got more chance of sliding down than of catching the teams ahead of them.
I'd go for it if I was him, all English managers want to be in the top flight, especially if he doesn't think he will make it with Forest... He theoretically could keep west ammmmmmmmmm up (shame about the ****fest that'd ensue)
Davies would hate it at West Ham - it's one of the few places where he WOULDN'T be able to moan about lack of spending on players.
Has Davies ever spent any other time in the Premiership other than THAT infamous time with Derby? He's a solid enough Championship manager, and it seems to me that one 5-0 Cup win over an embarrassing West Ham side has bought him this attention. If true, it's a panic on the part of the porno men. I don't think he'd keep them up. Not a chance, actually.
I'm not a fan of Allardyce but West Ham's current woes are nothing to do with management. They simply have a horrendous injury list. 3 teams have to be relegated and if West Ham happen to be one then they have a proven manager to get them back in the PL next season.
Davies going to West Ham would be good for us. Fat Sam may be going through a rough patch at the moment, but he is a seasoned Premier League manager with enough experience of fighting relegation battles to drag West Ham up the table when they get their injuries sorted. Davies is good with promotion chasing Championship teams, but his only experience in the Prem was an embarrassment. He is also a very abrasive character and there's a chance their players might not take to him. Also the January window any new manager would desperately need is already a third gone.
You didnt say that. Hmm, I do agree to an extent and I have - or had - zero doubts theyd get out of it however the actions of his captain in the past few weeks suggest really all is not well there. These werent necessary sending-offs to benefit the team by hacking down someone through on goal, both were completely ****ish, petulant little ****ty fouls that showed he simply didnt care that he was letting his manager and teammates down. That's not the behaviour of the captain of a team where they're all happy with the management.
There is a clause in his contract which means they can sack him without compo if they are relegated. It'll cost the Hammers £6 million to sack him now!
Fair point but I'd counter that by saying Nolan has always been like that. He has the look about him of a pro footballer knowing he can't hack it anymore and refusing to accept it. Maybe Allardyce knows this now but hasn't been able to drop him because of their injuries. It'll be interesting to see if he plays him when they have more bodies fit.
Well said, and I agree. Not only have they had really bad luck with injuries, they have a captain who is a tool and judging by recent games, other players who just don't seem to care and aren't putting in any effort. Obviously I'm pleased, because on paper at the start of the season they wouldn't be competing for relegation, but as they are, it makes life a little easier for us. Sam is not a bad manager, and in theory with no injuries they have a decent team. I suspect that why their owners are backing him at a time other clubs would have pushed the panic button.
