I don't get it either. Is he even training?

I also don't see what Benayoun offers at all.

The back five and Austin pick themselves more or less, but as far as the middle 5 goes it doesn't seem to matter who plays or where. The whole midfield are lacking in performance whoever is picked. We need at least one of them to step-up and do the business on a regular basis.

Barton? Our most consistent performer in midfield.

Phillips? Our most dangerous wide player.

Otherwise I agree about the remainder of our midfielders.

I agree with Barton, he always gives 100% even if some of the stuff he tries doesn't come off. He stays true to his task regardless. ( v Leicester being the only exception. ) Phillips plays well one game and is then non-existent in the next. He's first touch often lets him down. Hopefully he will gain in confidence and consistency to be a fans favourite. I believe he's an unpolished diamond and we're yet to see the best from him.

Think this (Barton aside) has been our main issue all season, I'm hoping Benayoun may provide some additional creativity & we get a least one addition in over the next couple of weeks otherwise may continue to struggle.

I agree with you about Phillips. I think the raw material is there for him to develop into a good player. The importance of a good winger can't be underestimated. Routledge was a vital ingredient in our last Championship winning team from when he joined that January. A good winger can really open up teams.

Im not sure where to start with Diakite

    We don't play him
    We havent transfer listed him
    We havent released him

He just seems to 'exist' somewhere unknown

We know hes a rough diamond but hes either to ill to be selected, has a poor attitude (i do not suspect that) or Arry just doesnt rate him. Either way it just seems a crazy situation

Barton has been our most consistent player in front of the back five. If the other four in midfield can find some consistency, I believe we won't struggle. New additions take time to bed in to a new club. ( Some exceptions of course, but for whatever reasons this doesn't seem to happen to us. ) Benayoun, Phillips, Hoilett and Kranjcar have the potential to rip this league to shreds if they are allowed to express themselves, but Harry's tactics seem to be hampering us.

Hoilett can do this if he improves on his decision making. Phillips can also do it if he can harness his confidence.

He's in a similar situation to bloody Luke Young now. I wonder if Luke took him under his wing and showed him the ropes.

I would be careful with criticism of Diakite's situation.

It does appear to be a mental health problem and if that is the case it will be hard to put any time scale on his recovery. It certainly wouldn't be the same as bloody Luke Young.
