Just a little follow up on this news about Bryan. "Rene Meulensteen says Bryan Ruiz was left out of Fulham's squad for the FA Cup draw at Norwich to give a chance to the club's youngsters. He said, "In this case we thought it was better to give other young players an opportunity on the bench." Source : http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/spor...ews/fulham-boss-explains-ruiz-absence-6476380
Although we have moved ahead slightly on points and league position from Real Betis - they only have 11 and are rock bottom of La Liga, we have exactly the same goal difference of -21 (although we have both scored and let in more goals than Betis). Still what did we expect somehow our fates are interlinked this year.
It's official, Pepe Mel to WBA WBAFCofficial ‏@WBAFCofficial 4m 1/4 Albion are delighted to announce they have appointed Pepe Mel as their new Head Coach
Strange ON/Off affair. If what Fulhaman says is anything to go by, the media should have a field day. Meanwhile Bryan is getting a medical at Betis and we are getting 1m euros for the 6 month loan, according to La Marca
He's pretty media friendly, although I have no idea what his english is like - or even if he has any, so he won't come across anywhere near as entertaining as he did when he was in La Liga. It's actually a bit of a gamble by WBA as he hasn't managed a huge number of La Liga sides, just a couple from memory and although Betis did well with him at the start, back in 2010, they have fallen away in the last 12 months or so.
The on/off thing reminded me of when we appointed Mark Hughes. Apparently West Brom cooled their interest last month because he wanted to bring his own coaching staff with him, and now they've ended up going back after missing out on other targets. So, in a few months he'll probably flounce out complaining about a lack of ambition, crash and burn somewhere with money (West Ham to be the new QPR, perhaps?) then end up somewhere he couldn't have conceived signing up for a looking wistfully at what he left behind. Maybe.
We flounder, Khan sacks the Mule. WBA get relegated and sack Pepe. We appoint Pepe. Club arranges close season friendly with Real Betis. The Circle of Life.
Let's hope it's not a windy day in Eindhoven...wouldn't want Ruiz to get blown over... @fulhambuzztap: Sky Sports >> Ruiz undergoes PSV medical http://t.co/I82oejh23o
A very good article from the Guardian's Sid Lowe on Pepe Mel. Worth a read. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jan/16/pepe-mel-west-bromwich-albion-real-betis
What on earth? If we get Bardsley from Sunderland this is becoming very spooky!!! "Sunderland have allowed midfielder Alfred N’Diaye to join Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the season...."
Just seen the result from the Europa League. Fulhaman won't be happy. Sevilla 0 - 2 Betis. Funnily enough a lad called Sevilla scored for Betis. They've done well in Europe this season considering how woeful they've been in the league.
Grrr. Thats the Señora throwing things around the kitchen for 20 mins until she calms down a bit. Thank goodness most Spanish women come on the small and slim side. I'd be in right trouble if she was bigger. Still, only the first leg, I think. Mind you that was at our place. The lad Sevilla is not a bad player. But they are mirroring us still (or we are them) both rock bottom and destined for the drop.
