Gay Footballers

The issue about footballers coming out is a personal choice...but there is an issue that a gay or bisexual footballer couldn't go out with their lover or partner without running the risk of being photographed or outed.
To me homophobia is as bad as racism but unfortunately not everyone thinks like that so I think that any player who is know to be gay would receive untold abuse

 

You need to read the Bible in the context it is written without the slant that the newer interpretations place on it. The original context of all of Jesus' forgiveness, throughout history was that the old testament punishments stood as written and Jesus forgave (occasionally) because he was divine.

It is very interesting that you should mention that passage about casting the first stone, because it is now generally accepted that this passage was added to the Bible almost 1000 years after the gospels were first written.

This is why I said the "historical Jesus". It really just shows that the original barbarity in the Bible has been revised continuously through history when it became too much for normal people to accept. After all, even by the 10th Century, people had evolved past stoning criminals and the barbaric customs of Jesus' time.

There is a huge difference between history and scripture.

The 'historical' Jesus was a Jewish Torah abiding Israelite, who would very much believe in the commands of the OT, particularly on it's calls for killing the adulterers and the homosexuals...It's you who has come up with a slant and newer interpretation that Jesus was this Jewish-Israelite figure who actually DIDN'T adhere or believe in the principles of the Jewish Bible but had some new age ideas to override the older system. But in all seriousness, although I seriously doubt that the opposing fans would be mature/respectful of a players sexuality, it is no worse to be insulted about your sexuality than to have death threats against your family screamed at you, in fact I would argue that (for example) "He takes it up the chufff.....He takes it up the chuffffff...." or whatever inane chant people would come up with is much preferable to "I hope your kid dies" (admittedly I've only heard this screamed by one or two sick individuals). Once the first player comes out, I'm sure it'd start a torrent, which would only be a good thing for homosexuals still at school etc. It could be one of those rare cases where Football could have a truly positive impact in changing societal perceptions

 

People can be gay all they want. Hate the sin not the sinner!
