A plastic is only interested in supporting a team which wins or is historically associated with winning AND has no link to the club in question. The way they play is not important.
carrabuh - I'd say that that is a pretty accurate description of a 'plastic'. I've only had my season ticket for 6 years or so, but was a casual fan prior to that. I'm lucky in that I live in Norwich, so often bike to home games, so no transport/parking costs. I intend keeping my season ticket whichever league we're in, as boy how I have enjoyed seeing emerge from the depths of league 1 and nearly going out of business to where we are now!!!! OK
Although I suspect that some of the comments made have been tongue in cheek the general point intrigues me. When I was 12 I gave all of my pocket money and the money in my piggy bank to the fund set up to save NCFC having already been to Carrow Road every match for seven years. I would shout, cheer and sing OTBC everytime it started up. I first bought a season ticket in the late 70's and have had one every season since apart from 2 spells when I was posted to Australia and 1 spell in America. When I worked in London I lived there during the week and came home at weekends. In later years when the Club asked us to buy shares I bought some. When the Club asked for the season ticket rebate back they got it. If, in the last years at work I had business clients to entertain I took them, if possible, to Delias. In retirement I have now gone for comfort and the concept of a full day out and now sit behind glass so nobody on the pitch would hear me if I chanted or sang. In 63 years I have never missed a game because I couldn't be bothered or because the standard of play was dreadful - although thousands did in the 60's because it was so dire. After all of that I find it puzzling to be told that I am not a true supporter because I admit to moaning when simple passes go astray or complain afterwards that the match was a load of crap. I don't boo or jeer - although it would be a waste of time if I did because they wouldn't hear me - and will continue to attend every match as long as health allows. I am fairly certan the Club would class me as a true supporter.
No-one would accuse you of not being a true supporter 1950. This debate arose from Thai asking about season ticket sales and the waiting list. In the background was a suggestion that CH is losing the club support. JRFan then recounted how several of those sitting near him were talking about not renewing their tickets, which if they really meant it would indicate that support was indeed ebbing away. I then suggested that JRFan call their bluff, which suggestion was misinterpreted, giving rise to all this "when is a true supporter a true supporter" stuff. Much ado about nothing in other words.
As I said Robbie I was fairly certain that some of the comments made were tongue in cheek although, equally, I am sure that many supporters would agree with post 11 from our resident devil's advocate - talking of which any sign of Supers returning - I love it when he locks horns with Carrabuh.
If you are suggesting that is what this post was hinting at - think again! This information was for a website I am constructing. Thanks for the figures JR, even if they are slightly out, it is not an issue
I'm fairly confident of the season ticket figure and know that the waiting list was over 2,000 at one point, but I believe they are easier to get now.
