Alright chaps, I find myself likely moving to Manc in 3-4 weeks, knowing absolutely ****e all about the city, other than a few long weekends.

Working in Denton, which is by all accounts a lovely place......... not living there though!

Gonna be renting somewhere fairly central, reasonably priced without being too much of a dive.

Would anyone recommend any certain areas to look in to or avoid? Gonna spend the day on the phone to estate agents tomorra and thought I'd ask you guys for some friendly advice beforehand.

    Cheers

Avoid Gorton and surrounding areas like the plague.

Get a house in didsbury or chorlton mate, they are the only 2 decent areas in the whole city of manchester!!!! Didsbury you can get a house for about £800 a month or a one bed flat for about 5-600

Didsbury and Chorlton are good areas, transport links are excelent too from these places. You can stay just outside of manchester, somewhere like Heaton Mersey isn't a bad area and it's only another 5 mins further from the centre than Didsbury.

I agree about avoiding Gorton and the areas around there.

Having lived in Altrincham for about 15 years I'm quite a big fan of Sale. There are three Metrolink stops which mean town is only ever about 20 mins away, and you're right off the ring road so it won't take you too long to get to Denton.

It's right next to Chorlton and Didsbury, but you get a bit more bang for your buck being outside the M62 imo. You can get a two bed flat for around £500 if you shop around, and if you go up to £700-800 you can get some properly nice little pads right on the canal.

    Appreciate it guys.

Had heard from others that Didsbury was a good place to be looking, just looking for a few honest recommendations cause its never wise to just go with what the estate agent says.

    Thanks again for help

I'm from Denton mate, where you working. Don't live there anymore though I live in nearby Hyde. Nothing special like. Not far from all of the wilderness though! Peak District and that. Which isn't too bad. Anyway what I'm saying is move to Hyde if you want a council house!!

Gonna be working round that retail area, Crownhill or something. I'm a city boy so not too fussed on getting out in the country, I'm an English lad living in Belfast and if you go too far out into the country and you don't come back, and there's no bears over here!

Don't mind the journey time to Denton, doesn't seem too far away which is why I'm looking for something more central.

All advice welcome, I'm stepping into the unknown over there.

    Cheers
